Quality Control Welding Inspector

The core mission of this position is to maintain the effectiveness of the company Quality Control programs to the highest possible degree of Quality. The QC Technician for Welding Department oversees all aspects of Quality in in-process products as well as in final products, all material to be inspected at the Welding area, paint area or back yard. Assists, Supervisors, fitters and QC department in Investigating Customers Claims regarding Welding and Painting departments. Whirlwind’s goal is to provide fabricated structures for families, congregations and businesses in the most efficient manner while maintaining a safe work environment. The Quality Control Technicians role is critical to this process because he/she ensures the most effective quality measures are taken at all times.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with departments and external suppliers regarding Quality concerns. Monitor shop Activities to ensure conformance with applicable Buildings Codes, Standards, Policies, Procedures and/or Drawings Specifications
• Receives Instructions from QC manager about Project Specific Inspection and Test and Perform those tasks
• Perform inspections on projects requiring expertise and knowledge under the direct supervision of the Quality Control Manager
• Ensures Supervisors and Employees understand and adhere the Quality Control Program
• Assists Quality Control Manager with Welders Qualifications
• Maintains Equipment operation and Calibration
• Manage and Conduct Audits at Welding and Paint Departments
• Performs 100% Visual Inspection of Welds in Final Structural Steel Elements
• Perform inspection of welds by ultrasonic method.
• Reports Directly to Welding Supervisor about any Quality Deficiencies in Final Parts
• Tracks the Quality Deficiencies per Weld
• Reports Directly to QC Manager about mistakes or welding problems and Tracks the Daily Information
• Reviews and Assists in product complaint investigations and assists Supervisors with investigations

Qualifications:

• Certified as a Welding Inspector or an ASNT / ASME Visual Level II is a plus
• Able to achieve a Non Destructive Testing training as a Level 1 and 2 in Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particles and Visual Inspection of Welds and Steel.
• Read and Interpret Structural Steel blueprints
• Proficient in the use of Inspection Tools and Measuring Equipment such as Tape Measure, Square, and Micrometer.
• Experience with Evaluation related to Quality and Codes issues.
• Must have the ability to multi-task in a manufacturing environment to meet production demands.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience as a Welding Inspector or as a Qualified Welder
• Experience in Structural Steel Inspection using AWS D1.1 Welding Code
• Ability to Work well in a Team oriented environment
• Experience in GMAW process
