Job Description

Highland Baking Company in Northbrook, IL, is looking for candidates to fill the QA Technician positions in the afternoon and night shifts. Earn double-time and a weekly attendance bonus weekly.

SHIFTS - The afternoon shift starts at 2 pm; the night shift starts at 10 pmPOSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining Highlands Food Safety Programs. Ensure GMPs, SOPs, and safe work practices are being met. Demonstrate leadership while functioning as a team player.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports Highland’s mission, vision, strategic plan, goals, and management decisions; establish department mission and goals.
  • Maintains a strong commitment and support of Highland’s global food safety initiative.
  • Continuously monitor food safety practices, visual quality standards, conformance to specifications, regulatory compliance, and compliance with company policies.
  • Make provision to ensure fundamental food safety and quality practices are adopted and maintained.
  • Follow and understand the standards for food safety and food quality production reflected in SQF as well as the regulations of major vendors and governmental agencies such as OSHA, FDA, HACCP, and EPA and assures associates are consistently trained in these standards and comply with all requirements.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to achieve food safety and quality objectives and to support the development, implementation and maintenance and ongoing improvement of the SQF System.
  • Remain in the productions and packaging area monitoring and documenting GMP, food safety, and employee safety policies and procedures. There will be no standing around idle. Report any quality or regulatory problems to Quality management.
  • Perform in-process line audits to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring food safety and quality problems reported by personnel are corrected.
  • Responsible for Food Safety, Quality, Security & Regulatory Compliance.
  • Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures in the performance of your job functions. Ensure that all Operations team members follow SOPs. Initiate appropriate corrective actions when SOPs are not followed.
  • Report foreign material findings, GMP and Safety violations (QA Department) Ensure that if there is a foreign material issue, a detailed report is to be completed to eliminate material from the leaving the building.
  • Maintain record-keeping as required by QA programs.
  • Perform various audits i.e., First Pass, GMP, Code/label Verification, Metal Detection, etc.
  • Verify at beginning shift that the packaging employee are using the correct metal detection wands for the product that is being produced
  • Collect BME retentions, record in Retention Log, shipping personnel takes product to the freezer at the end of each shift.
  • Verify every four hours that the packaging employee is performing the metal detector check correctly.
  • Performs Label and Code Verification on packaging per line at the beginning of run and change over. Randomly in between where time permits.
  • Inspect and verify metal detectors and scales daily per QA program
  • Verifies once a shift that the packaging employee are using the correct wands for the product that is being produced.
  • Initiate and monitor corrective actions when required
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required by QA Plant Manager/designee
  • Prepare and package customer sample requests when applicable.
  • Schedule is subject to change
  • Ensure Hold Procedure is being performed properly and recorded.
  • Maintain sanitary work areas.
  • Overtime will be required on an as needed basis.

SKILLS
  • Including Highland Baking Company’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s)
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Accurate, patient, careful, responsible, and quick and alert.
  • Dedicated to the achievement of Highland Baking Company and department’s goals.
  • Ability to use various machines
  • Knowledge of Color Coding Policies
  • Knowledge of the products manufactured in Highland Baking.
  • Able to follow and execute instructions.
  • Experience with plant inspections, including Third Party Audits (i.e. Silliker), City, State, and Federal inspections, and internal audits
  • Good communication skills to deliver valuable teamwork
  • Knowledge of the health and safety regulations.Including Highland Baking Company’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s)Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Knowledge of Color Coding Policies
