Description

Job Overview: The Tennessee Immunization Information System (TennIIS) team within the Department of Health’s Immunization Program has programmatic oversight of the state’s Immunization Information System (IIS, “Registry”) and its web interface, known as TennIIS.


TennIIS gives authorized immunizing providers the ability to submit and obtain comprehensive vaccine records on any patients in the system; this system is at the heart of immunization program efforts to ensure the prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases.


TennIIS accepts immunizations administered in any clinical setting by any authorized immunizing provider to recipients of all ages.


As a member of the TennIIS Epidemiology team, this individual will work with fellow epidemiologists and administrators to evaluate and improve electronic data sharing connections between clinical health record systems and the IIS.


This position reports to the TennIIS Lead Epidemiologist.


This individual will work with a team and gain experience in the use of health data system interoperability standards, such as HL7, and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects including electronic data exchange and data quality assurance analytics.


This individual will be the lead for maintaining Data Quality evaluation reports, a Tableau data exchange dashboard, and generation and submission of an annual report to federal agencies.

Key responsibilities:

·Analyze and validate the data quality of HL7 messages. HL7 and IIS training will be provided.

·Assist with the development and implementation of training and communication materials for electronic trading partners to help improve the quality of their incoming data.

·Investigate and diagnose problems with data quality as they occur. For example, if a delay in data transfer is identified, determine reason(s) for delay and help define strategies to minimize/overcome the root cause.

·Write SAS code, create and maintain REDCap databases, and visualize data in Tableau.

·This position may require some in-state and possibly out of state travel.


Minimum Qualifications:

·Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics.

  • · Ability to code in SAS ( REQUIRED)
  • · Must be able to travel within the United States
  • · Willing to help in public health emergency
  • · Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • · Demonstrated knowledge of SQL
  • · Must have valid driver's license
  • · Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • · Must have familiarity with EHR or EHR related products
  • · Must be able to work on site in Nashville at least one day per week
  • · Must have working understanding of IT systems and interoperability
  • · Able to plan, execute, and complete projects within a limited timeframe and budget
  • · Minimum 2 years of experience working with relational databases
  • · Must be authorized to work legally in the U.S
  • · Minimum 2 years of experience using statistical analysis software
  • · Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • · Must be available to work occasional weekends or after hours
