Job Duties:
A $12,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- · $4,000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- · $4,000 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- · $4,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a talented candidate who has Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing experience working with adults with substance use disorders for our Adult Outpatient program.
Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation and training to nursing, clinical and administrative staff.
- Prepare medical justification and documentation for clients to obtain prescribed medication in accordance with financial status.
- Provide psychiatric services to adult mental health and substance abuse population .
- Receive clinical supervision, perform medical duties and prescribe medication under the supervision of the Medical Director or his physician designee and administrative supervision from the Department supervisor.
- Provide diagnosis and treatment of mental health/substance use problems.
- Refer clients to appropriate medical and/or clinical services.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and order EKGs for screening and for diagnosing.
- Manage a patient caseload and provide documentation for medical direction and supervision, e.g., chart review, case review of patient care outcomes as required by the Virginia Board of Nursing and Board of Medicine.
- Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals, as needed.
- Prescribe appropriate psychotropic medication.
- Travel to and perform duties at several department locations within the City.
- Assist clients in applying for patient assistance programs, applying for department medication subsidy, obtaining sample medications and obtaining prescriptions, when approved, from pharmacy accounts.
- Provide information, instruction, and counseling on health maintenance, health promotion, social problems, illness prevention, illness management, and medication use.
- Provide Tardive Dyskinesia screening, as appropriate.
- Provide medical / clinical services to Behavioral Health adult clients in an outpatient setting.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Master's Degree in a nursing related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Possession of a valid license as a nurse practitioner; certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; a nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority issued by the State of Virginia and possessing a DEA number within 90 days of being in position. Must have a current and valid driver's license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
Experience working with adults with substance use disorders.
Experience with conducting crisis assessments and providing intervention with adults.
Current Va. Licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner w/ prescriptive authority & DEA number.
Experience providing Tardive Dyskinesia screening.
Experience providing consultation and training to nursing, clinical and administrative staff.
