Responsibilities
The Psychiatric CNS/NP will serve as a member of the Behavioral Escalation Support Team (“BEST” Team). The BEST Team responds to calls throughout the hospital when patient behavioral escalations arise. In addition to working with team members to de-escalate patients, the Psychiatric CNS/NP will be responsible for psychiatric assessments, medication reviews, behavioral care plans, staff coaching, and staff education.
Leverages in depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas to effectively manage highly complex care. This includes multidisciplinary collaboration that identifies and prioritizes nursing care needs for a population of patients and families. Develops, implements and evaluates new models of practice across the continuum of care. Leads the implementation of new policies and procedures across all nursing units. Collaborates with other clinical nurse specialists and health system leadership to lead change and develop evidence-based models of practice.
Mentors excellence in patient care across a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Develops and implements evidence-based patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Required Qualifications
  • Current AHA CPR/BLS Certification
  • Possession of valid California RN and Advanced Practice license
  • CNS licensure or licensure and national certification as an advanced practice nurse (PMHNP)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Graduation with a master’s degree in nursing, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
  • One year or greater experience in the care of mental health patients
  • Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
  • Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
  • Furnishing license (if Nurse Practitioner)

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year or greater experience as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Greater than 1 year experience with organization or program management
  • Have or obtain an aligned national board certification within specified time frame
