Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)

A multi-specialty ortho clinic located in Emeryville in a community setting with access to highly skilled surgeons and physicians focusing on delivering state of the art care with patients at the center of the continuum. APP will be functioning at the top of licensure with fully independent clinics with first assist responsibilities.
The APP will have both an independent and shared practice including first assist in the OR. In the clinic the APP will see new patients, follow ups, and post operative care.
The schedule is Monday to Friday, with typical clinic from 7:30AM to 5PM. Schedule flexibility is required.
The ideal candidate would be a NP or PA with prior orthopedics experience. NP candidates are required to have their RNFA upon application.

A Brief Overview
The Physician Assistant (PA) functions under this Physician Assistant approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). Specific functions pertaining to the Service, Clinic or Department are established by the PA and his/her supervising physician(s), and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators, the IDPC, the Credentials & Privileges Committee, the Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) Medical Executive Committee and the SHC Board Credentials, Policies and Procedures Committee.

What you will do

  • Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
  • Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
  • Obtains informed consent, as indicated.
  • Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
  • Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
  • Administers medications according to the formulary protocol or upon patient-specific approval from the supervising physician, or transmits orally or in writing on a patient’s record, a prescription from the supervising physician to a person who may furnish such medication. All controlled substances in Schedules II-V inclusive require a patient-specific approval by a supervising physician in advance of transmittal of the order or administration of the medication [see Standardized Procedure: Administering, Ordering, Furnishing or Prescribing of Drugs; Formulary Protocol].
  • Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.
  • Acts as first or second assistant under the supervision of an approved supervising physician.
  • Provides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.
  • Performs surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician.
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
  • As directed by the supervising physician, enrolls patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and orders the necessary tests and medications. [see Standardized Procedure: Administering, Ordering, Furnishing or Prescribing of Drugs; Formulary Protocol] Medications that are not FDA-approved or are used for a non-FDA- approved indication (off-label use) require a patient-specific order in advance from the supervising physician.
  • Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
  • Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
  • After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating room (OR).
  • Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary.
  • Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty.
  • Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.


Education Qualifications

  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • Note: PAs hired prior to July 1, 2012 are not subject to this educational requirement
    • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university.


Licenses and Certifications

JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions under this Nurse Practitioner

This job description covers all classifications for NPs within the organization. All NPs
must meet all elements of the Essential Functions, Qualifications, and Supervision.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. An NP may provide only those medical services which he/she is competent to
perform, which are consistent with the NP’s education, training and experience, and
which are performed under the supervision of a physician who is responsible for the
patients cared for by that NP.
B. An NP shall consult with a physician regarding any task, procedure or diagnostic
problem which the NP determines exceeds his/her level of competence or shall refer
such cases to a collaborating physician.

11. After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating
room. The RN First Assistant directly assists the surgeon and practices
under the supervision of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase. The
RN First Assistant must adhere to standardized procedures and not
concurrently function as a scrub nurse.

III. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education
1. Master’s or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or
university.
a. Note: NPs hired prior to March 1, 2012 are not subject to this
educational requirement.
2. Graduate of an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing
Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education (CCNE).
B. Licensure/Certification
1. Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California.
2. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of California.
3. National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP).
a. Note: All NPs hired after November 1, 2013 must be nationally
certified upon hire and maintained for employment.
4. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart
Association (AHA).
5. Furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
6. An individual Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license issued by the
United States DEA for Schedule II-V controlled substances.
7. Additional board certification(s) may be required by certain
specialties/departments.

IV. SUPERVISION
A. Supervision is provided by the supervising/sponsoring physician with clinical
privileges at SHC, or designated attending physicians in the Clinic, Service or
Department. Standardized procedures, approved by the supervising physician(s)
and the IDPC, are a mandatory mechanism of supervision. Other mechanisms of
supervision used may be:
1. Direct on-site, electronic or phone supervision by a supervising physician. A
physician cannot supervise more than four (4) NPs at one time.
2. Chart screens on random charts by the supervising physician or designee.
3. Chart audits on random charts as an integral part of selected quality
improvement programs.
4. Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) through tracking of
performance indicators.
5. Review and co-signature of written medical records within 14 days.
B. The NP will receive a formal annual performance evaluation by the Lead
Advanced Practice Provider (Lead APP) or supervising manager/director with
input from the Lead APP, supervising physician(s) and/or physician delegates,
APP peers and the supervising manager/director. Ongoing Professional Practice
Evaluation (OPPE) also occurs through tracking of performance indicators.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $81.45 - $107.92 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
