Job Description

Position Summary

The Provost reports to the President of the University and serves as the chief academic officer for the University. The position provides primary academic and administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for both credit and noncredit course development, academic affairs of the University and serves as leader of the institution in the absence of the President.The Provost will work in collaboration with the President, Deans, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to achieve the mission of the University. A significant part of this position involves strategic academic planning and visionary leadership for growth, especially in nursing and the health science programs.


Essential Job Duties

·Promotes a culture of institutional and operational integrity and accountability with regard to the mission, governance, and resource allocation of the University.

·Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical components of academic excellence and student success.

·Advises the President on all matters related to academic affairs and University administration for a culture that fosters superior student outcomes and academic excellence.

·Engages stakeholders and constituents in the community, at the state level, regionally, and nationally to help continued growth of Salem as a brand and a partner for stakeholders.

·Oversee the planning, staffing, development, scheduling, and evaluation of all courses and programs in the curricula for both on-campus and online programs.

·Oversee the management of curriculum development projects and the approval of new programs via the Academic Leadership Committee, the Board of Trustees, and appropriate local, state and national groups and organizations to stay abreast of statewide and national academic trends.

·Provides support and guidance for program-specific and University-wide marketing, branding, and promotion.

·Leads the transformation of academics at Salem towards innovative career focused curriculum with a strong focus on Healthcare related programs

·Develops and oversees the annual budget for assigned areas of responsibility.

·Leads University wide communication regarding academics.

·Aids in the development of grants and research proposals.

·Coordinates and prepares written materials appropriate to instructional needs, including reports for university accreditation.

·Provides guidance to staff to address student and parent concerns and appeals with Deans and faculty members.

·Provides presentations to the Board as needed, especially for regular program review.

·Participates in commencement and other ceremonies.

·Drives achievement, results, and utilizes human capital while allowing for autonomy within the deans’ roles.

·Provides strategic and transparent communication with internal and external constituents.

·Ensures the production of the University catalog on a timely basis.

·Performs other related duties as assigned by the President of the University.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·Candidates must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a regionally accredited University and credentials to qualify for position of Professor.

·Significant academic leadership and ability to drive achievement, results, and utilizing human capital while allowing for autonomy within the directors’/deans’ roles.

·Visionary and strategic academic leader with ability to transform culture.

·Strong product strategy skillset to identify both credit and noncredit programs to support strong enrollment growth.

·Demonstrated experience in developing and growing programs in health sciences and nursing.

·Demonstrated track record as a successful academic leader with a record of increasing responsibility appropriate for a senior level academic appointment.

·Bases decisions on evidence, data analysis, and feedback for program effectiveness and continuous quality improvement efforts.

·A strategic and transparent communicator, especially as it relates to internal and external communication, especially to deans/directors, faculty, staff, and students.

·Knowledge of and expertise with the principles, practices, and techniques of university financial systems.

·Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

·Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with professionals, staff, students, and the public.

·Experience with managing student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS) within a university setting.Experience with Blackboard and Campus Nexus preferred.

·Ability to frequent campus in Salem, West Virginia and office in Indianapolis, Indiana.
