The Global Economy and Development program at Brookings aims to shape the policy debate on how to improve global economic cooperation and fight global poverty and sources of social stress. The Center for Universal Education (CUE), founded in 2002 as part of the Global Economy and Development program, is one of the leading policy centers focused on universal quality education across the world. This is a one-year termed position, with possibility of extension.

Position Location
: This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC, office with the option of at least two days of remote work each week.

Vaccine Policy

Responsibilities:

The Center for Universal Education (CUE) plays a critical role in influencing the development of policy related to global education and promotes actionable strategies for governments, civil society, and private enterprise. CUE is seeking a Project Coordinator and Research Analyst to support its work related to building an innovative pedagogies research stream and peer-learning network which focuses on the learning sciences of how children learn best to fuel a breadth of skills. Reporting to Fellow, Omar Qargha, the Project Coordinator and Research Analyst will work on projects associated with the CUE Knowing Doing Network, and other related research initiatives.

Project Coordination and Support (60%)
  • Closely monitors and adjusts project timelines and work plans, communicates upcoming deadlines and priorities, and works closely with the Fellow and other relevant team members to ensure smooth, on-schedule implementation of project activities;
  • Represents the project at relevant public events and meetings; and
  • Co-leads overall management tasks of the project led by Fellow;
  • Manages the project’s events calendar, including proactively identifying relevant virtual and/or in-person global education events through which the project could share findings, connect with other actors, etc.;
  • Serves as a primary point of contact with global partners and colleagues of the innovative pedagogies project, regularly communicating via email and related platforms about relevant project activities, deadlines, events, etc.;
  • Provides primary administrative support and coordinates the planning, execution, and follow-up related to virtual and/or in-person meetings and workshops;
  • Engages in multi-language translation and interpretation when applicable
  • Drafts key takeaway notes from virtual and/or in-person meetings and workshops, for review by the Fellow;
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Regularly tracks and inputs relevant data into project monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) plans and trackers;
  • Supports Fellow in the design, establishment, and management of the Innovative Pedagogies Network;
  • Coordinates with internal colleagues from finance, development, and communications departments;

Research Analysis (40%)
  • Co-authors, drafts, and/or contributes to blogs, reports, and other communications pieces with the Fellow and other partners;
  • Monitors and summarizes current events, debates, policy analysis, and research related to the field of learning sciences, innovative pedagogies, peer learning networks, and research practice partnerships;
  • Contributes to coding and analyzing primary qualitative and quantitative data collected for the project
  • Researches, reviews, compiles, and processes data and information on issues and themes from various sources related to innovative pedagogies and the work of the project;
  • Serves as a project liaison and note-taker during frequent calls and related exchanges with partners and colleagues related to the project;
  • Drafting, editing, co-authoring, and/or proofreading of briefing documents, project reports, concept notes, and other internal and external written research documents;
  • Other research assistance duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in education related fields, sociology, economics, international affairs, political science, or related social science field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Strong academic record. Minimum of three years of combined work experience in project coordination and research support, preferably in an academic, think-tank or NGO environment. Prior experience organizing high-level events and meetings with senior stakeholders strongly preferred. Experience living, working and/or studying abroad is a plus. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are key to this position’s success, including editing and proofreading. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (including Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and with the capacity to learn new programs and applications required. Cooperative attitude and flexibility with the ability to work as part of a team. Program coordination, project management, administrative, research experience and sharp attention to detail are essential.

Familiarity and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods such as conducting literature reviews, case study research, research design, and coding. Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner, within a fast-paced work environment. Professional demeanor and comfort working with individuals from government and international sector, as well as colleagues around the globe is a must. Ability to work well under pressure with poise and discretion and to exercise mature judgment. Knowledge of global education issues, including learning sciences, educational psychology, and comparative international education, strongly preferred. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Complete fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency in an additional language is preferred.
