Job Duties

The Chickahominy Health District local health departments covering Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, and New Kent counties of the Commonwealth, is part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) that serves the citizens of these localities preventing illness, promoting healthy lifestyles, and protecting the environment. This position will be based in New Kent. Some travel will be required within the district with personal vehicle mileage reimbursement or agency vehicle when available. Typical work hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm.
The Program Support Tech will independently perform technical office tasks in support of a program area regularly requiring application of policy and procedures. Characteristic activities: Serves as contact and information resource for one or more programs including clinical, vital records and environmental health, performs eligibility determinations for all services available in health programs including direct support in clinical services and/or performs program and operational support duties; may serve as lead worker to direct, advise and train others; may design and direct workflow processes; researches and processes claims; collects data and prepares reports on program activities. Position will also provide back-up support to the accounts receivable billing and processing department. May provide performance input regarding staff, to appropriate supervisor.
This is a full-time position and is eligible for excellent benefits. Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator)
  • Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
  • Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in VDH programs; webVision, Environmental Health Database, Electronic Death Registration System, nextRequest
  • Experience in VDH account receivable procedures and policies
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
