Job Description

Under minimal supervision, responsible for managing program operations and administration of the School of Dentistry’s Office of Research.
This position is eligible for a hybrid (telecommuting and in-office) rotating scheduling.

Essential Functions
1. Manages and administers projects and procedures for the Office of Research.
2. Manages research correspondence and activities and fully supports the needs of the Associate Dean of Research.
3. Researches, analyzes and prepares administrative reports and documents relating to research activities.
4. Forecasts, develops, and implements policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staff management, and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies as necessary.
5. Works with Communication Team to promote new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
6. Participates in University-wide committees to establish customer service standards, administrative plans, and policies.
7. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
8. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.
9. Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department’s continuous quality improvement program.
10. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the applicable (e.g., federal, state, institutional, etc.) policies and procedures that guide research-related training and conduct.
11. Collaborate with Pre-Award, and Post-Award grant support to ensure grant timelines and budget requirements are met.

Often selects from a predetermined list of alternatives and sometimes recommends or changes policy and procedure based upon the department’s discretion. Problems would be referred to superior based upon predetermined guidelines set by the department.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
