Job Description

Center of Muslim Experience in the US at Arizona State University


The Program Coordinator will work closely with the two co-directors in fulfilling the mission of CME-US, fostering a deeper understanding of Muslim Americans and their contributions to American society, providing knowledge and resources for use by diverse people, and working to facilitate the diversity of Muslim students attending ASU to succeed.


Responsibilities

  • Work with ASU staff in budgetary reporting and submitting payment requests;
  • Create event announcements, promote CME activities, and keep the webpage up-to-date;
  • Oversee student research fellows;
  • Develop and upkeep a resources database, including identifying scholars with common interests; identifying institutions, centers, and organizations with shared missions; research and tracking work of local Muslim community organizations;
  • Develop library liaison to build a collection on Arizona Muslims, in partnership with the Arizona Historical Society and local museums.
  • Keep up communications with stakeholders (i.e., local community, ASU faculty and students, donors,and associated national organizations);
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of resources on local Muslim communities and histories for journalists, teachers, students, and others interested in learning about Muslim Americans, particularly the Arizona communities;
  • Assist directors in identifying grant opportunities, help develop grant proposals, fulfill reporting andbudgetary requirements for grants, and assist in coordinating grant implementation (e.g. organizingseminars, overseeing/coordinating research teams, etc.);
  • Assist with annual reports and newsletters for broad circulation;
  • Create and maintain a dynamic database of resources for ASU Muslim students;


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of an MA degree in humanities or social sciences (preferably history, anthropology, or sociology);
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to learn quickly;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Islam and Muslim American communities along with experience workingin/with Muslim communities;
  • Experience working independently;
  • Demonstrated knowledge with, or ability to learn, ASU working environment and institutional arrangements;
  • Evidence of effective writing and communication skills.
  • Experience working with Muslim communities, engaging policy, and/or advancing Muslim civic engagement;
