Job Description
Job Responsibilities


To perform a variety of duties relative to the investigation and disposition of employment complaints against slate, local, and municipal agencies and the private sector based upon the South Carolina Human Affairs Law.


  • Under limited supervision completes the investigation of cases within 180 days from date of assignment. Maintains necessary knowledge of State and Federal laws.
  • Under limited supervision collects evidence, analyzes bases, issues, relevant information, legal theories, and processes, and recommends disposition of employment discrimination complaints. Counsels complainants, respondents and attorneys to the Commission's procedures and requirements, standards of proof, relief and relevant State and Federal laws; prepares investigative requests for data and relevant documents, conducts formal interviews of witnesses and parties to a complaint; conducts on-site investigations; analyzes complainants' and respondents' defense and all pertinent records, documents and other evidence to determine whether a complaint has merit; prepares analysis of information and letters of determination to be issued by the Commission; determines potential respondent liabilities; recommends corrective action; negotiates and prepares pre-determination settlements between complainants and respondents; drafts conciliation agreements embodying provisions necessary to remedy discriminatory employment practices in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws, and judicial precedents governing damages and relief. Determines the need for and prepares amended complaints.
  • Completes assigned cases according to established standards. Provides information, advice and assistance regarding individual's rights, general provisions and obligations to respondents, complainants, various groups /organizations to ensure compliance relevant laws.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.


  • Ability to establish a good rapport with clients and maintain control in highly sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of civil rights laws, personnel policies, and procedures; good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer. calculator, copier, phone, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations: policies and procedure
  • Ability to complete, process and maintain all required records, reports, and related information.
