Operations include GCC Energy an underground coal mine (King II) in Hesperus, CO. Producing coal for use in the manufacturing of cement we serve a niche market with a bright future. High quality coal in strong demand, long term reserves and excellent working conditions. Located in beautiful Southern Colorado the mine is in close proximity to Durango CO, Bayfield CO Farmington NM, Cortez CO and Mancos CO among other areas. This area is an outdoor lover’s paradise. GCC Energy King II Underground Coal Mine in Hesperus, CO is hiring both experienced and inexperienced coal miners. Working on a federal mine site requires MSHA certification which consists of 16 or 32-hour training course (2 or 4 days of classroom training) depending on surface or underground. The staffing agencies GCC works with will provide that training free of charge but to you that time is unpaid as you need it to work.
Prior work experience that generally transfers well to coal mining is oil & gas, construction, industrial and agricultural among others. Depending on experience / certifications initial hire would likely be through a staffing agency to ensure a mutual job fit.

Through staffing agency positions are paid:

• Surface is $20/hr.
• Underground is $22/hr.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period (approximately 90 days), you would be converted to a GCC employees. Positions pay $28.16 to $32.82 hour depending on if the position is surface or underground. Rates only increase from there based on position and skill level. We also offer a generous monthly production bonus as well as full benefits and paid time off.
Qualifications

• Ability / willingness to work any shift assigned (days, swings and graves (Required)
• Work in a fast-paced, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds on occasion.
• Must live within 60 miles of Hesperus Co. or be willing to relocate.
• High school or equivalent (Preferred)
• Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, non-DOT physical, and DMV check

The Utility job description below is representative of day-to-day coal mining activities. Comparable positions include surface operator, shuttle car operator, roof bolter and continuous miner operator.
What you will do:
The Utility person will perform variety of tasks involving both physical labor and equipment operation for the purpose of mining coal.
Primary responsibilities:

• Operates rubber tired, battery powered scoop to clean mine bottom, haul supplies and materials from place to place and remove trash and other debris from inside mine.
• Transports machine from place to place safely and efficiently.
• Performs various general/manual labor duties on frequent basis such as shoveling; applying rock dust; gathering and delivering supplies and materials; greasing conveyor belt rollers; tail pieces and head drives; assisting other miners in performing their duties, etc.
• Operates diesel powered, rubber-tired fork lift to load supplies in outside mine yard into scoop bucket.
• Conducts all work activities in compliance with Federal and State coal mining laws and Company policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
• Assists in moving the section which primarily involves installing/retrieving mine conveyor belt, associated structure and devices, and moving up/pulling back the section main electrical power distribution center, battery chargers and associated electrical cables.
• Assists in moving section equipment in working face area, maintaining temporary and permanent ventilation controls, hanging of equipment trailing cables from mine roof.
• Performs routine maintenance, including cleaning, on a machine.
• Conducts pre-operational visual, physical and operational checks on machine and visually and physically examine conditions of face, roof and ribs of each place being cleaned.
• Relieves other equipment operators on as needed basis.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

• Ability to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, show the necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the main responsibilities as summarized and defined.
• Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining industry.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
