We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced engineer to take the lead on product design and the engineering execution for a large array of Trek and Bontrager products. Use your technical expertise to design, prototype, and develop new products in both R&D and production projects. Work as a team to create next generation products that will have a big impact on the cycling industry. These products will include Saddles, Grips, Pumps, Tools, Bottles, Cages, and more.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effectively balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously
  • Work in conjunction with Trek racing teams to develop appropriate Bontrager and Trek product that perform at the highest level
  • Learn, create, and implement new engineering tools that will enable you and your teammates to be successful in creating best-in-class products
  • Translate customer / rider feedback into specifications for Bontrager products
  • Plan and perform engineering research, design, testing, and development tasks for Bontrager products of varying complexity in a team environment
  • Provide expertise to bike groups, athletes, marketing, and other internal customers
  • Stay informed of new technology through technical publications and seminars
  • Coordinate engineering activities with domestic / foreign design teammates
  • Create and develop engineering specification packages that effectively communicate to internal and external partners to ensure products meet given project parameters
  • Conducting patent searches and perform idea generation
  • Develop collaborative relationships with vendors and work with them to develop new technologies
  • Travel as necessary both domestically and internationally (typically Taiwan and Europe)
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Proficient mechanical aptitude and polymer materials knowledge
  • Competent computer database, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates
  • Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Positive attitude that fosters continuous improvement and flexibility
  • Ability to interpret data and solve complex problems
  • Ability to iterate quickly and rapid prototype designs
  • Detail oriented with proficient planning skills, initiative, and accountability
  • Computer aided engineering skills including solid modeling, simulation programs and advanced mathematical modeling and analysis programs
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience with bike fit or bicycle rider biomechanics
  • Experience designing bicycle parts including saddles, grips, or other bicycle components
  • Ability to suggest new materials and processes to improve Bontrager and Trek products
  • Ability to research and development new testing methods and standards to improve performance and quality
  • Experience translating customer feedback into engineering specifications
EDUCATION / TRAINING
  • Post graduate studies or work experience in materials science or engineering related field is a plus
  • 5-10 years' experience in an engineering related field with a high degree of R&D focus and product development
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
