Job Summary


Avantor is looking for a dedicated and eager to learn Process Engineer to optimize our NuSIl team, delivering results against some of the most complex business and technology initiatives.


This role will be a direct hire, full-time position based out of our Bakersfield, CA facility. You will have the opportunity to be a hands-on partner with our operating equipment while focusing on process improvements and challenging technical tasks. The team


Avantor’s R&D - Aerospace & Defense team is part of our NuSil business unit. This team supports the innovation and growth objectives of our biomaterials research group.


What We’re Looking For


  • Working knowledge of functions within a typical business manufacturing or supply chain (e.g. shipping, receiving, order procurement / purchasing, scheduling, inventory, and execution
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Computer skills (MS Word / Excel)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPC, HazWoper, and other governmental regulatory requirements
  • Experience: Knowledge of process production activities in a chemical or mechanical manufacturing environment preferred


Preferred Qualifications


  • Additional training in APICS, ASQ, or related business organizations (such as Six Sigma, Lean) preferred

  • $85,000 annual salary

How You Will Thrive And Create An Impact


The Process Engineer I will work independently under close supervision, will be responsible for a range of engineering activities in new product research, including the development of new methods, programs, and procedures in accordance with the overall business direction. This role will focused on process improvements, with a significant hands-on component.


  • Coordinate diverse groups from manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering and operations to achieve required goals.
  • Successful continuous quality improvement implementations and Lean Initiatives.
  • Assumes ownership role in ensuring that projects are completed on-time and accurately.
  • Independently identify opportunities for improvement, gather the appropriate data to support the change and speak to the change in a scientific and persuasive manner.
  • Works with associate engineers and engineers to troubleshoot processes, design new equipment and / or processes
  • Understand the SPC and the ability to implement appropriate metrics and monitoring.
  • Learn process, chemistry and equipment quickly in order to lead problem solving activities.
  • Achieve goals within prescribed time frames.
  • Manage and sustain organizational change.
  • Drafts research findings.
  • Adhere to all the Company's Technology Safety policies.
  • Schedules project assignments and maintains process flow to ensure timely completion of analyses.
  • Initiate, competence and confidence to anticipate and respond to issues.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others to perform tasks accurately, completely and on-time.
  • Identifies and implements enhanced technologies to improve Environment Health and Safety attributes of manufacturing practices
  • Provide coaching and training to others on analysis tools and results.
  • Responsible for designing and implementing new processes as a result of analyses.
  • Ability to make well-grounded decisions and assessments using quality and engineering tools
  • Easily assume ownership role in ensuring that all projects are coordinated thoroughly including formation of teams, training of applicable personnel, design of project, data collection and analysis, implementation of corrective action and establishment of control measures to ensure sustainable change.
  • Identifies potential hazardous situations and addresses hazardous processes
  • Develops personal strategies for juggling competing demands.
  • Directs associate engineers and engineers in daily work and project management
  • Independently design and manage projects to timelines.
  • Devises individualized plans for associate engineers and engineers to improve knowledge, skills, performance and promotability.
  • Work in a cross functional environment, respecting and engaging others to resolve problems and improve processes.

Pay Transparency


The expected pre-tax pay for this position is


$57,300.00 - $95,400.00


Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
