Process Development Scientist (Molecular Biology)

Your Tasks:
As a member of the Lentigen Technology Molecular Services team, you will have the exciting opportunity to support the development and characterization of Lentiviral vectors. You will apply your exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to serve as a cross-functional team liaison to successfully coordinate and execute Molecular Services team activities to accomplish department objectives. As a PD Molecular Biology Scientist, you will play a key role in driving the development of new products and technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of molecular biology software to perform in silico cloning and plasmid sequence analysis, including but not limited to selection of restriction enzymes and primer design.
  • Provide molecular biology expertise to the Molecular Services team to develop and implement proper study design to include plasmid assembly, restriction enzyme digest, PCR and sequencing primer design, and Sanger sequencing analysis.
  • Work in a matrixed environment and effectively communicate with multiple departments to support lentiviral vector development and characterization.
  • Utilize a variety of molecular biology techniques, including cloning, PCR, qPCR and ddPCR.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills will be instrumental in the tracking and communication of data and will ensure efficient progress towards achieving team objectives.
  • Design and execute experiments to support the development of lentiviral vectors, including strategies for vector backbone optimization.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform data analysis including, but not limited to, restriction digest analysis, Sanger sequencing data analysis, and sequence alignments.
Requirements:
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and writing skills enabling capability to provide summaries and reports.
  • Expertise in lentivirus vectors design and optimization of vector backbones
  • Highly motivated, fast learner, detail-oriented team player. Good organization, initiative, and a collaborative attitude are essential.

  • PhD; or Master’s in Molecular Biology, Virology or relevant field with at least 5 years of related experience or bachelor’s degree with 10 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of common analytical methods used in Biotechnology labs is a plus but not necessary (Immunoassays, Cell based titer, Flow Cytometry, etc.)
  • Solid understanding in experimental design and molecular biology methodologies
  • Strong hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including plasmid assembly, PCR, qPCR and ddPCR
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job is performed in a temperature controlled facility without exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Generally, this job is performed in a sanitized laboratory setting and routinely uses standard medical and research equipment such as centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, chromatography devices and columns, tangential-flow filtration devices and filters, peristaltic pumps and metering fill pumps, pipettes and computers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood, viruses, bacteria, body fluids and other tissues. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as scrubs, coveralls, masks, glasses and gloves. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
