Position Title: President & CEO

Reporting Relationship: Board of Directors

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Position Description: The President & CEO is an inspirational leader who provides operational and executive expertise. This position represents the organization to the public and community organizations, leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, builds donor relationships and oversees personnel.

The President & CEO reports to the volunteer governance Board of Directors and works closely with them to build systems and procedures to accomplish the mission and reach strategic and annual goals for the organization. This position has top authority in developing, implementing and managing the budget, operations, programming and staff development. The President & CEO is a team player who develops sound practices and supportive relationships with internal staff, Board, girls served, volunteers and external constituents resulting in cooperative and effective collaborations that further the organization’s mission and vision.

Organization Leadership Responsibilities

  • Monitor and adapt to changes in the business environment.
  • Oversee management of human resources including hiring, discipline, training and coaching.
  • Effectively develop business systems and strategies and ensure appropriate implementation.
  • Lead the strategic planning process with the Board to ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and makes consistent and timely progress toward the plan.
  • With support from the Board and staff input, ensure that the organization has an annual operations plan that is aligned with its strategic plan. Implement and execute plans and achieve results approved by the Board.
  • Maintain ethical standards and accountability, manage risk, perform due diligence, and implement operational best practices.
  • Establish an internal culture that motivates staff and inspires the girls served.
  • Ensure business strategies, real-time program impact and customer satisfaction are driven by data assessment and analysis.
  • Ensure that culture supports optimal organizational outcomes.

Operations - with appropriate staff, committees, and Board

  • Assists with special projects. (Networking systems, special events, video production)
  • Secure sufficient funding and resources to meet annual organizational budget.
  • Develop and oversee processes, and strategies to cultivate professional development of staff.
  • Oversee management of all programs and services, staff and public relations.
  • Promote and encourage leadership throughout PEARLS organization.
  • Ensure program enhancements are strategically developed and integrated into functions.
  • Remain informed of all operating issues, schedules and systems.

Fund Development - with appropriate staff, committees, and Board

  • Provide leadership for fund development. Responsible for ongoing new revenue sources for PEARLS.
  • Actively participate in donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Develop collaborative projects/partnerships with other community providers.
  • Develop diverse funding streams to best support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Oversee fundraising efforts including sponsorship, solicitations, donations, donor cultivation, grants and fundraising.

Finance - with appropriate staff, committees, and Board

  • Review analysis of financial activities (income and expense) to discern trends, identify areas for improvement and address problems.
  • Maintain proper record keeping and ensure internal financial controls.
  • In collaboration with leadership team, develop and manage annual budget.
  • Ensure optimal financial performance.
  • With the Treasurer and finance staff, review and report all financial activities to the board on a regular basis.

Organization Representative - with appropriate staff and volunteers

  • Oversee development of annual communication plan, which includes media preparation/training for staff and key volunteers.
  • Function as the primary spokesperson for organization.
  • Oversee development of media relations; identify and maximize appropriate opportunities.

Other - with appropriate staff and volunteers

  • Participate in and support Board of Directors meetings; support and attend committee meetings as appropriate; partner to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Structure Board materials that direct director’s attention to issues of policy and strategy.
  • Personally attend and encourage attendance of staff and Board in trainings, events and meetings annually.
  • Assist the Governance Committee in developing and implementing an annual plan for identifying and recruiting candidates for the board. Assist in recruiting and orienting new Board members.
  • Mentor senior leadership; Board relationships and other development needs.

Education and Experience

  • Because of the critical leadership scope, this position requires a minimum of five years in a leadership capacity, including extensive ownership of both human resources and budgetary/operational responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit administration or another field from an accredited university is required.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience, demonstrating ongoing growth in positions and responsibilities.
  • A minimum of two years at a Senior Leadership/Executive Director, Government Administration, Non-Profit Executive or Corporate Officer position. Experience with development, securing funding and/or non-profit marketing is required.

Language Skills

  • Ability to effectively present information to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from clients, other community agencies, public and private educators or members of the professional and business community.

Leadership Skills

  • Must be able to provide effective counsel and recommendations to the Board of Directors, management and staff concerning all organization challenges.
  • Must be able to direct a fully competent staff capable of completing all assignments accurately and timely.

  • Ability to work with non-judgmental attitude in a population comprised of diversity in gender, socio-economic and ethnic group, sexual orientation, and physical or mental abilities.
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience. Included is a competitive benefits package with medical, dental and vision; life and disability insurance; a flexible spending account; paid time off; paid holidays; and participation in a retirement plan.
