Scion Executive Search (SES) has been exclusively retained by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (the CFO) to conduct an immediate search for its next President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). ABOUT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Of The OZARKS


The Community Foundation of the Ozarks works to enhance the quality of life for Missourians and future generations by building community endowments, meeting needs through grantmaking, providing leadership, and promoting collaboration on community issues.


In the early 1970s, a group of estate-planning attorneys learned of a sizeable estate gift that left Springfield because there wasnt a place to accept a general gift for community betterment. Fifteen banks provided $100 each to create the regions first public charitable foundation in 1973.


Today, the CFO holds assets of about $415 million, which have approximately doubled over the past decade. It is governed by community volunteers and run by a professional staff that serves a network of donors, 53 regional affiliate foundations, nonprofit partners, and professional advisors through approximately 3,600 charitable funds.


The Foundation is anchored in Springfield, Missouri, the states third largest city and a regional hub with several universities, major healthcare systems, and a variety of recreational and cultural experiences. The foundation serves the population of Springfield and a large rural geography, granting easy proximity to beautiful natural resources, including well-known tourism and retiree destinations in Branson and Lake of the Ozarks. The Foundations urban-rural diversity creates complex specific needs and many opportunities for philanthropic leadership.


ABOUT THE SPRINGFIELD, MO REGION:

POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) seeks a highly collaborative, transformational, continuous improvement leader. As the face of the foundation, the incoming President and CEO must have a passion for community engagement and fully embrace the beautiful, place-based culture of the Ozarks. This highly collaborative and strategic leader will be responsible for the administration of outreach, donor services, operations, and programs of the CFO. The President and CEO will be committed to exceptional service, built on the following core values: integrity, respect, leadership, and vision. Having the confidence to make decisions and step up in times of crisis, the ability to lead with integrity, and the adaptability topivot as needed for the community are all qualities that will lead to success. The new president and CEO, who will be just the fourth in the CFOs history, will represent the entire 58-county service area, and understand the various opportunities and challenges of both urban and rural areas in southern Missouri. The President and CEO will directly supervise the CFO Leadership Team comprised of the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Affiliates, Vice President of Development, and Vice President of Programs.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead and manage activities to implement strategic goals and operating priorities for sustainability. Measure and report goal achievement; evaluate results and revise strategies as necessary.
  • Oversight for ensuring the Foundation is fiscally responsible and adhering to sound fiscal practices.
  • Planning and supporting the development of individuals skills and abilities.
  • Primary staff to Executive, Governance, and Mission-Related Investment committees. Analyze, coordinate, and oversee all asset development activities.
  • In partnership with the Board, help build a diverse and inclusive Board representative of the community, highly engaged and willing to leverage and secure resources.
  • Inspire and motivate staff to achieve optimum results by delegating work appropriately, holding staff members accountable, supporting professional development opportunities, and celebrating successes.
  • Serve as the primary Foundation spokesperson for the public and liaison with Foundation partners and affiliates.
  • Interacting with others in a way that gives them confidence in ones intentions and those of the organization.
  • Represents the Foundation in a wide variety of community leadership roles, including convening, participating, and facilitating on a range of high-priority issues.
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and evaluation, consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and communications while proposing timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals for sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors to develop and implement the annual and 5-year strategic plans while ensuring that the budget, staff, programs, and priorities are aligned with the CFOs core mission.
  • Develop, build, and maintain relationships with potential donors and key Foundation constituents.
  • Provide thoughtful and sensitive leadership for the CFO staff as a consensus and bridge builder.
  • Create and support a positive, multicultural environment that maintains and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion for all.
  • Provide support to Board members in their efforts to serve the mission of the Foundation.
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual Action Plan as adopted by the Board.
  • Participate regularly in community and affiliate activities to maintain and cultivate trusting relationships with stakeholders assuring the CFOs mission is presented in a robust and positive image.
  • Ensuring that the constituent perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet constituents and own organizations needs.


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Genuine commitment to become deeply involved in the community to build and nurture mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Passion and dedication to the mission and work of the CFO.
  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience leading a committed team and fostering a positive work environment of ambitious goals, collaboration, accountability, healthy relationships, and inclusivity.
  • Broad working knowledge of fundraising, resource development, and grant writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of philanthropy related to nonprofit organizations.
  • 5+ years of foundation, nonprofit or equivalent executive leadership experience
  • Skill in presenting to groups of all sizes in formal and informal settings.
  • Excellent financial acumen with the ability to read and understand complex financial statements, including a broad range of investment opportunities.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:


In addition to a competitive base salary of $250,000-$270,000 DOE, plus a bonus, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks offers a very generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision (100% paid for employee), 403b retirement with up to 5% match, generous PTO, and more!
