Job Description
Chief Executive Officer
Graystone Eye is seeking its next Chief Executive Officer to carry on its mission and culture of serving others. The CEO works with the Board of Directors to guide strategic planning for the entire organization, ensures proper operations and accountability in all departments, and ensures overall organizational success.
The mission of Graystone Eye is to preserve the gift of sight and improve lives—one patient at a time. Originally established in 1969, the practice has grown and expanded ever since, and their surgery center and 4 locations now offer a range of ophthalmic, oculo-facial plastics, and optical services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Extensive executive leadership in the healthcare industry, with experience reporting to a Board of Directors.
A minimum of 5 years of experience as an administrator, director, executive director, CEO, or comparable position, preferably in a private, physician-owned ophthalmology practice.
Master’s degree or equivalent.
Experience in negotiating general business contracts as well as payer contracts.
Experience onboarding staff, including new providers.

Superior interpersonal and communication skills to respond to sensitive inquiries, give effective speeches, persuade others, and gain consensus.
Mathematical skills and financial acumen to assess data and organizational performance and to assist in the budget and annual reports.
Problem-solving skills to define problems, collect and interpret data, and draw conclusions.
Strategic and operational mindset.
Working knowledge of human resources management and compliance issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
With Board involvement and guidance, establishes and develops the culture and strategic direction for the organization.
Ensures appropriate financial performance and assists in preparing budget and annual reports.
Studies leadership methods to empower team members, improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures, and implement cost reductions.
Analyzes unit-operating practices to create new systems or revise established procedures.
Works with Director of Human Resources and departmental leadership to analyze jobs and delineate position responsibilities for use in wage and salary adjustments, promotions, and evaluation of workflow.
Studies and applies methods of improving work measurements or performance standards.
Ensures preparation and analysis of critical operating reports, which demonstrate key performance indicators for overall organizational success.
In conjunction with Board of Directors and Leadership team, establishes, interprets, and implements operating policies.
Recruits physicians and other providers as needed.
Leads space/facility planning and oversees large construction projects.
Coordinates shareholder buy-in and buy-out processes; working in tandem with corporate accountants and attorneys.
Works with appropriate staff to negotiate managed care contracts.
Ensures that all organizational activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
Represents the organization within the communities served and the broader region to demonstrate stellar corporate citizenship.
