Job Description

Job Summary:

A Prep Cook is responsible for the preparation of ingredients and stations used in the cooking process, as well as maintaining the kitchen and ensuring it is clean and sanitized. A Prep Cook is also known as a food preparation worker.

To be a successful Prep Cook, you should understand and be willing to comply with food and sanitation guidelines and regulations, be quick and diligent, and be willing to improve on the job. A top-notch prep cook should be able to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow the prep list created to plan duties.
  • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.
  • Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parcooking food.
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  • Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
  • Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
  • Perform routine kitchen tasks.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 6+ months experience working as a prep cook in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen

  • Safety & Security - the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Planning/Organizing - the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.



Physical Requirements:

  • Able to traverse a stairwell multiple times per day
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to stand on your feet for 8 hours at a time
