Job Summary:
A Prep Cook is responsible for the preparation of ingredients and stations used in the cooking process, as well as maintaining the kitchen and ensuring it is clean and sanitized. A Prep Cook is also known as a food preparation worker.
To be a successful Prep Cook, you should understand and be willing to comply with food and sanitation guidelines and regulations, be quick and diligent, and be willing to improve on the job. A top-notch prep cook should be able to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
- Follow the prep list created to plan duties.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
- Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parcooking food.
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
- Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Perform routine kitchen tasks.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6+ months experience working as a prep cook in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen

- Safety & Security - the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
- Planning/Organizing - the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to traverse a stairwell multiple times per day
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Able to stand on your feet for 8 hours at a time
