Job Description
The Practice Manager functions as the Practice Manager of the School of Dentistry's Faculty Group Dental Practice (FGDP), has responsibility for the day-to-day operations, to ensure the effective administrative management of patient care activities for a practice that bills over $5M in patient revenue annually. The position reports to the Clinic Director of the FGDP, who in turn reports to the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Operations. The FGDP is the offsite private dental practice for School of Dentistry faculty practitioners. FGDP provides patient care for 3,500+ active patients, with over 25 faculty practitioners. The Practice Manager advises the FGDP Director and FGDP Committee (which also serves as an advisory role to the FGDP Director) which meets on a regular basis to review FGDP policies and procedures. The Practice Manager also provides accurate and timely information necessary for operational decisions. This includes, but is not limited to patient billing and insurance collections, payer mix, operational expenses, payments for services and supplies, provider chair occupancy, extraction of data and reports from the dental management software, schedules of front desk employees, dental assistants and dental assistants to work with dental practitioners. The Practice Manager supervises the front office staff (clinic assistants, insurance assistant, accounts payable assistant), back office staff (dental hygienists, registered dental assistants, laboratory personnel), approving vacation requests, giving annual performance evaluations (with input from colleagues, the FGDP Director and faculty practitioners), and providing progressive discipline (in conjunction with the FGDP Director and the School of Dentistry's Human Resources Manager) when necessary. Working with the FGDP Director, the practice manager will make and implement decisions on staffing needs and skillsets needed for current staff and new hires. The Practice Manager is expected to understand and support the administrative duties of their direct reports to properly measure success and assist with those responsibilities in the event of a staff absence or mounting workflow pressures from time to time. The Practice Manager ensures that all dental operatories are fully functional and optimized to their present full potential while planning for their future potential. The Practice Manager ensures that necessary repairs are made and suggests improvements to the utilization of the practice; additional responsibilities includes security of the facility and safety training when necessary and appropriate. The Practice Manager is expected to be a working manager and onsite daily. The Practice Manager is responsible for organizing; planning, staffing, supervising and financial analysis including budget projections, fiscal analysis and ensuring faculty practitioners receive patient income in a timely manner (working with the School of Dentistry's Academic Personnel Manager). The Practice Manager is expected to oversee or perform daily deposits - submitting accurate and detailed daily reports to the School of Dentistry and the campus General Accounting Office; ensure that FGDP is meeting established University policies and procedures regarding cashiering functions; manage patient billing functions ensuring that all regulatory procedures are correctly fulfilled; function as a preparer and reviewer for online functions such as PAC and Tofu's.

Demonstrated skill in personnel supervision including selection, training, delegation of responsibility, development of job standards, performance evaluation, discipline and resolution of employee relations issues.

Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry. Working knowledge of principles of 4-handed dentistry.
