Responsibilities*

  • Receive, sort and deliver mail to addressee by hand or four-wheel cart.
  • Clean assigned area of work and equipment.
  • Notify departments of mail schedules and regulations.
  • Pick up commercial parcel services packages and deliver to Mail Service.
  • Operate single unit motor vehicles to pick up, transport and deliver mail.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ability to solve problems and handle emergencies.
  • Able to lift 50lbs and higher.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Familiar with certified and priority mail
  • Familiar with packaging processes including UPS, Fed Ex, and Metro Carrier.
  • High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid Chauffeur License and License for this position.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers.
  • Able to pull and hull carts and stand long periods of time.
  • Read and write English.
  • Must be able to operate a medium size Motor Vehicle.
  • Familiar with loading and unloading mail cages from post office.

Work Schedule

Standard hours: 40 Work days: Mon-Fri
Shift start/end times: 7:00am - 3:30pm

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
