Job Description

IT Portfolio Manager


Manage the IT project portfolio. Manage the corporate strategic planning process. Track, analyze, and report on the IT project portfolio and manage related processes.


Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage the process for collecting, tracking, and classifying the backlog of project requests
  • Support the corporate executive team in producing content for plan documents as well as producing content for progress updates to the executive team and organization
  • Develop and mentor the Projects & Strategy Administrator and Strategy and Portfolio Analyst
  • Facilitate processes for analyzing and reporting on the IT Project Portfolio, including creating and executing a cadence of portfolio updates and reviews with senior business leaders and IT leaders
  • Plan and facilitate processes to accomplish IT demand planning and capacity planning
  • Design and facilitate processes to evaluate the costs and value associated with the overall IT Project Portfolio spend
  • Oversee the process for evaluating projects, including the process for evaluating ROI and measuring results back to ROI projections • Manage the project lifecycle governance process, including enforcing stage gates and ensuring that all criteria for initiating project have been met.
  • Facilitate the development of and manage the execution of the IT strategic plan
  • Introduce continuous improvements to drive the maturation of the strategic planning process
  • Manage all aspects of maintaining the IT project portfolio, including ensuring the quality and consistency of project-related information, developing appropriate analysis and reporting structures and cadences, and facilitating decision-making activities
  • Manage the use and administration of the organization’s project and portfolio management software, including designing appropriate processes and workflows
  • Manage the production of regular reports to the executive committee on plan progress and achievements
  • Manage the process to gather and refine plan inputs, including capturing, analyzing and consolidating SWOT feedback.
  • Perform research and analysis and provide reporting on internal and external trends connected to identified SWOT items, to aid in the in the development of the overall plan objectives
  • Manage all aspects of the creation of strategic plan artifacts by continuously improving the planning templates, content, and materials needed to produce, refresh and maintain short term and long range strategic plan documents
  • Design methods for cascading and communicating plans and tactics to the broader internal organization
  • Plan, schedule and facilitate meetings and activities required to develop and refresh strategic plans
