Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW: SUPERINTENDENT PORT OPERATIONS
Chiquita is seeking a candidate highly adaptable to changes in the business need, flexible to working schedules and eager to take accountability for different operational processes at our facilities in Wilmington, Delaware. This is an exempt position responsible for port and yard operations supervision which includes, but is not limited to, operations planning and supervision to ensure operational standards, cost effectiveness, data integrity, and on time reporting are achieved
This is a position that requires availability to extended working schedules, as well as weekend and holiday work. Schedule can be subject to changes based on business need
Work is mainly performed outside office environment in the Port of Wilmington Facility and satellite facilities in Wilmington, DE
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform weekly fruit and equipment inventory in Wilmington and Outside Facilities to provide proper fruit inventory control and equipment fleet rotation
  • Perform ad-hoc operational processes such as containers LTR, fruit inspections, and dispatch coordination.
  • Coordination with Maintenance and Repairs and Transportation Departments to troubleshoot any operational issues and secure timely dispatch and receive of the cargo to/from the Port of Wilmington
  • Planning and Coordination of the Fruit and Cargo Inspections with CBP, CBP AG, and Port Operator
  • Supervision and coordination with Facility Operators to guarantee Chiquita’s cargo is properly handle, connected to electrical power and temperatures are monitored while in storage in the Port Terminal and Satellite Facilities
  • Utilize and monitor correct operation and utilization of company Information Systems to control the business, including securing real time transactions for equipment and cargo dispatch and receptions
  • Planning, Supervision and Follow Up of the Vessel Discharge and Loading Plan with the Terminal Operator, Vessel Planning Team, and Vessel Crew to guarantee fruit and cargo availability to service Chiquita’s customers
  • Supervision of daily gate and yard operations in Wilmington to ensure dispatch and reception of equipment is performed timely and accurately. Includes engaging with Port Operator Supervision Team, Dispatchers, Clerks, and Carriers to guarantee clarity of work plan and the information necessary to execute daily operations
  • Identification of Cargo and Equipment Damages in order to recover any cost from the responsible party, i.e. Stevedores, Carriers, Customers, etc
  • Perform download of temperature information from containers as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3 years of port and/or yard operations
  • Associates degree or Bachelors degree in logistics, business, mechanical/industrial/process engineer.
  • Proficient on Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in intermodal environment preferred
  • Excellent written/spoken communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, goal driven, self-motivated and teamwork player
  • 2 years in a supervisory position
  • Quick learning of computer information system applications
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
  • The incumbent will be exposed to an environment with heavy equipment traffic for the planning and supervision of the processes
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
  • The incumbent will need to learn and then teach his/her direct reports to plug and unplug reefer containers to 480V plugs and occasionally will require to execute the labor him/herself
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment during normal workday
  • Walking, stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, pulling, pushing, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
