About Brightline

An environmental justice (EJ) non-profit founded in 2005, Brightline Defense works to create sustainable environments and empower low-income communities and communities of color. Brightline’s Policy Associate will support Brightline’s policy work and regulatory proceedings. Additionally, this position will support communications work and research projects as needed.

Primary responsibilities:

• Research, analyze, and draft reports, recommendations, and memos to meet desired policy outcomes, including but not limited to gains in renewable energy, green job creation, and progressive workforce development.
• Track and engage on behalf of Brightline in a docket of state regulatory proceedings, including but not limited to CEC and CPUC proceedings related to 100% renewable target, such as AB 525 workshops, Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), Resource Adequacy (RA), and Long-Term Gas Planning Proceedings.
• Engage in education, media, and communications strategy as needed.
• Organize and establish calls as well as meetings with community partners and government agencies.
• Support local and state legislative work related to Brightline’s policy priorities, as well as expand Brightline’s reach in new subject matter related to climate change and sustainability.
• Assist in the management of fiscal operations including budget development and modifications, and tracking expenditures.
• Work with the communications team to curate original content for social media platforms.
• Collaborate with Brightline’s programs teams as needed to advance policy goals related to air pollution, job training, and San Francisco city matters.
• Collaborate with Brightline’s Legal Director, Executive Director, and legal consultant team on legal proceedings and other regulatory matters.
• Engage in the federal and state permitting processes related to offshore wind development, transmission, and more.
• Take precise notes and communicate Brightline’s position effectively in public meetings and hearings.

Qualifications

• Creative, strategic, and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Knowledge of job training programs, construction, air quality monitoring, and/or environmental sciences a plus.
• The ideal candidate will have previous experience with a community-based organization.
• Able to work with a variety of populations, including community leaders, government, and non-profit partners.
• Must be highly organized and able to work well with others.
• Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated competence in both legal and policy research as well as strong writing skills.
