The Veterans' Home in Chelsea is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the role of Plumber and Steamfitter I.
Duties and Responsibilities: (These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive.)
- Measures, cuts and threads pipe, using hand and/or power tools.
- Cleans and maintains grease and steam traps.
- Makes certain prescribed safety equipment is used and that safety rules are complied with by assigned helpers, laborers; maintains all assigned equipment and working areas in clean, neat and orderly condition.
- Joins pipe and fittings, threaded or slip joints, by threading, sweating, caulking, leading and/or other packings or adhesives.
- Installs, alters, replace, repairs and maintains hot and cold water, compressed air, steam and sewage lines fittings and valves, traps, radiators, heaters, toilets, sinks, showers and other related fixtures and systems, above or below ground surface, estimates labor and materials needed to do work.
- Measures, cuts, fits, joins, fuses and performs layout of glass and plastic pipelines.
Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of the laws pertaining to plumbing sanitation and the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to the trade.
- Must possess a Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Plumber’s license.
- Ability to read, interpret and work from plans or sketches and to follow written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work and perform physically arduous tasks under adverse conditions of extremes of heat, cold, dampness and humidity.
- Considerable knowledge of the characteristics and uses of the materials, steel, malleable, cast and galvanized iron, clay, glass, concrete, transits plastic, copper tubing and related fittings, valves and fixtures.
- Ability to check, test and locate failures and malfunctions of the systems involved in the trade and to determine and execute corrective measures.
- Considerable knowledge of and skill in the uses of hand and power tools used in the trade such as, but not limited to, saws, chisels, hammers, dies, stocks, taps, drills, blow torch soldering equipment, soft lead, and silver, gauges and measuring devices.
About the Veterans’ Home in Chelsea:
The Veterans’ Home in Chelsea is a Joint Commission accredited inpatient veterans' facility owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is an independent State agency that organizationally reports to the Department of Veterans Services.
The Veterans' Home addresses the needs and provides support to approximately 350 veterans 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Medical, nursing and clinical supports are given to those residents residing in the Long Term Care Facility.
The residential units support veterans who are living independently but receive services and programs ranging from psychosocial and social work, receive transitional assistance, education, work and outreach programs.
The resident population is generally categorized into the following categories: Alzheimer, Long Term Care and Domiciliary
