Job Description
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or a closely related field; minimum of one year of related work experience is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of customers in a fast-paced and highly technical environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to quickly and accurately research, analyze, interpret, and apply a wide range of data in problem-solving situations. Knowledge of planning and land use principals, zoning and subdivision laws and ordinances (including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement). Considerable skill and experience in the use of personal computers, including: geographic information systems (GIS) as a reference, mapping, and analytical tools, word processing, and spreadsheets in support of workflow/process improvement. Ability to read and interpret land use plans, maps, charts, surveys, and site plans. Ability to perform fieldwork and to stand/sit for extended periods of time. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.


Duties

Chesterfield County is seeking an experienced Planner to join our team. This dynamic person will perform technical planning and community development tasks by processing applications, building permits, written determination requests and more, and will provide technical interpretations of ordinance requirements with an emphasis on providing customer service as the first point of contact for planning and zoning inquiries. Perform other work as required. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
