POSITION DETAILS

As the highest position among Aaron Davis Hall’s technical staff, the Technical Director (TD) is responsible for operating, protecting, and maintaining Aaron Davis Hall’s (ADH) technical assets, while also managing and overseeing the different technical activities in Aaron Davis Hall including set, lighting, and sound for campus or community events. The Technical Director (TD) would be reporting to the Managing Director of the City College Center for the Arts.

The first major responsibility of the TD is to set and enforce safe-use guidelines for all equipment in ADH. This equipment includes power tools in the wood shop, welding equipment in the metal shop, and all addition lighting and sound equipment in both the Marian Anderson Theatre and Theatre B. In addition, the TD routinely performs (or delegates) preventative maintenance on all equipment and specs new equipment when needed.

The TD is also responsible for maintaining the health and safety protocols in the ADH shop and stage areas and training the technical staff and making sure equipment is properly used, stored and maintained according to local and federal OSHA regulations.

The TD is responsible for managing the coordination and creation of stage/set design, liaising with show directors/producers, vendors, contractors, and exhibitors at ADH. In addition, the TD works with various departments on campus in specifying specific trade personnel and coordinators in order to facilitate special events in ADH. In particular, the TD works directly with the CCNY Theatre Department to safely and effectively construct all of the scenery for multiple faculty and student productions in ADH. Additional responsibilities, specifically for the Theatre Department, include budgeting for all scenery, producing technical drawings and managing production meetings.

The TD also works directly with CCNY students. This position trains students on the safe operation of shop equipment, and supervise student work on building, load-in, maintenance and strike of theatrical scenery.

In addition, the TD is responsible for the following:

  • In charge of calling all scenery crew for the strike call.
  • Attend production meetings and be prepared to discuss progress.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Supervise all aspects of the building of the scenery.
  • May supervise a permanent staff, as well as hired staff for projects
  • Coordinate with the master carpenter and schedule all scenic crew calls.
  • Keep in communication with stage managers about ongoing rehearsal needs and continuing changes to the scenic needs.
  • Keep in communication with the scenic designer about the scenery progress.
  • Keep in communication with the scenic charge artist about the scenery progress and paint schedule.
  • Tracking and accounting of budget for all productions and events
  • In charge of managing all persons assigned to the scenery crew.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient dismantling and storing of all scenery for the production
  • Consult and work with academic faculty, scenic designer, production or event director, and production manager of production or event to successfully realize production or event

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required. (Campus-specific qualifications, if necessary)

Salary Range: -$52,267 - $99,532 - Salary commensurate with education and experience.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
