The Payroll Clerk reports to the Payroll Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with preparation and processing the payroll for Harris County and other entities. This position is responsible for verifying net pay amounts, payroll deductions, and benefits hours including vacation and sick time. This role also produces and reviews payroll reports, utilizing the PeopleSoft payroll software system. The incumbent must understand and interpret the Harris County Personnel Regulations as they apply to Payroll production. Incumbent must also provide support to Harris County department liaisons and employees regarding payroll and human resources data. General Responsibilities Collect and verify timekeeping information for employees Calculate pay according to hours worked incorporating leaves and overtime Manage and calculate taxes and deductions Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes etc. Respond to inquiries and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll Prepare and submit payroll reports to supervision WHAT WE OFFER : Competitive salary of up to $47,800 per annum Hybrid Schedule with Remote Work Excellent Benefits and Wellness programs Zero-Premium Employee Only Medical Plan Outstanding Retirement Program Subsidized Transit/Commute WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: High School diploma or equivalent. Ideal candidate possesses: Prior payroll experience Familiarity with PeopleSoft payroll software a plus Proficiency, at a basic level, in Microsoft Office (including Word, Office, Excel and PowerPoint) Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality Organizational skills, is self-motivated and has strong time management skills Ability to work independently as well as collaborate on a team Excellent customer service skills with aptitude in problem-solving Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work flexible hours including overtime as needed Must be open to working longer hours during payroll processing days and be able to work flexible hours including overtime as needed. Candidate must be legally eligible to work in the United States. We do not provide visa sponsorship. Physical requirements for the position are the ability to sit for extended periods of time and the ability to push/pull, lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
