Neuroscience Intermediate Unit (6 JCP)


Our Honors And Awards Include


The 6 JCP unit is a 47-bed intermediate and acute care neuroscience unit caring for adult neurology and neurosurgical patient population requiring telemetry monitoring, ventriculostomies with intracranial pressure monitoring, and intensive neurological monitoring. Patient diagnoses include stroke, central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune diseases, surgeries of the brain and spinal cord, and neurological traumas involving the head, brain, and spinal cord.

Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Turn, positions and ambulates patients
  • Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges
  • Share responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit
  • Assist patients with bedpans and urinals and record output
  • Provide for patient comfort measures through social interactions
  • Participate in nursing care conferences; report pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge
  • Directly provide for patients' personal hygiene and comfort
  • Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
  • Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies
  • Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc
  • Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units
  • Clean areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment
  • May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse
  • Carry out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, & Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated
  • Perform special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site cares
  • Feed patients, serve drinking water and nourishments, and record patients' intake


Percent of Time: 50-100% - 20-40 hours per week


Schedule: Varying shifts available and will include a weekend rotation and holiday rotation.


Location: John Colloton Pavilion


Rotations: Every third weekend, Rotating holidays
