Patient Care Technician - Brachytherapy

This position is procedural based, working in our brachytherapy suite within Radiation Oncology at the Mays Clinic.

a. Responsibilities include completion of routine or advanced patient care assignments as delegated.
b. Understands critical changes to patient status and reports concerns to appropriate nursing staff.
c. Works with multidisciplinary team members to identify and address patient care needs.

a. Aids in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge, and vital signs in a diverse patient setting.

f. Demonstrate accountability by reviewing electronic/written communication from the Radiation Oncology and MD ACC.
Addendum:

• Provide assistance during discharging/ transferring patients from PACU/Radiation Oncology.
• Assist patient/family with gathering personal belongings.
• Discard disposable equipment, supplies, trash, suction canisters, etc
• Document in electronic health record.
• Active member in shared decision-making model at unit level
• Assist in entering patient information in Central Monitor and print EKG strips.
• Always identify patients according to institutional policy.
• Enable and promote change management
• Transporting patients safely to and from the procedural area in a timely manner so to not delay patient care.
• Participate in Performance Improvement projects
• Escalate patient safety issues to nurse/ leadership team.
• Assist in identifying barriers to patient care and solutions
• Provide assistance in admitting/transferring patients to the PACU and discharge.
• Make sure environment is free from hazards.
• Order pillows, linens and supplies
• Remove peripheral IV.
• Provide nourishment to patients as directed by the clinical nurse.
• Strict compliance with the principles of aseptic technique when providing care to patients.
• Maintain supply inventory management and audit for expired items.
• Assist in ambulation, out of bed to chair and/or going to bathroom or commode.
• Clean/ disinfect procedural room equipment, cardiac monitoring cable, stretchers, and wheelchairs and return them to the designated storage locations.
• Participate in educational events and competency check off
• Promote a safe environment of care through extensive knowledge on operating, maintaining, and cleaning of all equipment.
• Assist in obtaining vital signs, which include applying EKG leads, and measuring oral temperature.
• Empty drains and Foley catheters.
• Handle and transport laboratory specimens and samples promptly

Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
