Location: Saddle Creek Park: 3716 Morgan Combee Road Lakeland
Pay Rate: $20.14 - $30.50 Hourly rate
Shift: 4 10 Days Monday - Thursday

MAJOR FUNCTION
Responsibility for skilled technical work involving the performance of a variety of building construction trade work.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Performs rough and finished building construction work involving carpentry, concrete and roofing tasks. Operates builder's level laying out new building and construction projects. Operates a variety of power tools, including, but not limited to, circular saws, table saws, drills, laths, sanders, planers, joiners, routers, router/sign making machines and related machines, and instructs and directs other employees in the safe and proper operation of power tools.
Performs general carpentry work at construction sites or other assigned areas and locations. Lays sub-flooring and sheathing. Builds rough wooden structures such as kiosks, barricades, fences and scaffolds. Operates and uses a variety of tools and equipment in the construction, altering and repair of buildings and public works projects.
Performs site layout and constructs concrete forms. Directs installation of reinforcing bars and welded wire mesh. Directs, pours and finishes concrete for sidewalks and flatwork. Constructs wooden signs using specialized machinery. Prepares home plates and pitching rubbers for installation.
Performs locksmith services, including operation of technical equipment and machinery required for cutting of keys and assembly and modification of highly specialized security lock systems (Falcon Locks).
Performs wood construction and alteration of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens and other wood fixtures. Lays out and builds trusses. Performs framing and finish carpentry work. Builds cabinets, bookshelves, tables, benches, cupboards, and other furniture. Installs Formica.
Performs periodic inspection of Division facilities for safety and preventative maintenance conditions and orders repair materials to take corrective and proactive action. Specifies materials for new projects and repairs and purchases or coordinates purchases with Division Inventory Clerk. Constructs and/or assembles picnic tables and other park equipment as requested or assigned.
Plans, schedules and directs major projects and organizes work teams to undertake project tasks. Provides material take-off, orders materials and ensures that materials are delivered and on-site so as to ensure efficient utilization of manpower.
Performs lead work responsibilities supervising assigned personnel ensuring that work proceeds according to plan. Modifies or adjusts work site methods and activities/assignments. Instructs and trains/guides assigned personnel in the performance of a variety of tasks. Coordinates construction work activities with other maintenance trades personnel for progressing and timely completion of assigned projects. Supervises other tradespeople. Evaluates work performance of assigned personnel. Performs duties of general trades worker as required.
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the general building construction trade. Skill in use of the tools, materials and equipment common to the carpentry trade.
Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various woods, Formica, floor coverings, drywall and other construction trade materials.
Knowledge and daily practice of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to make construction project measurements and notations and prepare construction layouts.
Knowledge and ability to operate builders’ level and other power tools and equipment in a safe and proper fashion.
Knowledge of proper site layout for a variety of construction tasks, including, but not limited to carpentry, concrete form and flatwork and related tasks.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Must be capable of wearing and using routine safety equipment (vehicles safety belt, safety glasses, hard hat, etc.), and instructing others in proper use of safety equipment.
Ability to read and work from blueprints, sketches and plans. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to instruct and supervise other staff in the safe operation of tools, machinery and safety equipment.
Ability to perform a variety of manual work in all weather conditions. Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, crouch, and kneel. Ability to lift, push and/or pull materials/equipment that may weigh up to forty five (45) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a carpenter.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
