Job Description
Assists the Senior Paralegal and the General Counsel in the coordination of the operations of the Legal Services and Government Affairs Department and with the following essential duties and responsbilities.


  • Associate Degree in Legal Assisting/Paralegal or related field from a regionally accredited institution and two years of experience as a paralegal.
  • Assists in monitoring invoices from contracted outside legal counsel and prepares monthly summary for Executive Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer .
  • Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Work closely with the Purchasing staff and assists as needed.
  • Assists with replies to public records requests and subpoenas for records.
  • Conducts research and assists College staff in the interpretation of internal policies and procedures.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining a record of the legislative delegation, both Federal and State, for the College including contact information, committee assignments and other pertinent information.
  • Attention to detail
  • Establishes and maintains all contract files and updates the College contract database. Provides training to college staff on contracts, policies and procedures, and Contract Database.
  • Ability to organize and work independently
  • Assists in the preparation and filing of various reports with State and Federal authorities.
  • Assists in the preparation and filing of legal documents.
  • Assists outside counsel related to Trademark renewals and Collective Bargaining meetings.
  • Conducts preliminary review of all contracts submitted for approval and prepares draft amendments when applicable. Prepares first drafts of simple and complex contracts. Communicates with vendors regarding amendments and contract terms and conditions.
  • Assists in the preparation of internal and external correspondence and office memoranda.
  • Attends meetings as necessary regarding various topics, including but not limited to, changes in Board rules and IMMs, contract terms and conditions, changes to forms, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists in the internal processing of any litigation filed against the College and conducts legal research relating to litigation as necessary.
  • Assists with preparation of proposed legislation and reviews and tracks legislation throughout the legislative session. Prepares summaries of legislation affecting the college.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Prepares Statements of Regulatory Costs for Board Rules. Posts all new and amendments of Board Rules and IMMs and maintains status spreadsheet.
  • Establishes and maintains legal files and reports for the Legal Services and Government Affairs department and contracted outside legal counsel.
  • Assists in the preparation of presentations (including power point).
  • Under the supervision of contracted outside legal counsel, assists College staff with conducting internal investigations, student and employee grievances and student and employee discipline.
  • Certification from National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA)
  • Assists with the preparation of new or amendments of Internal Management Memoranda (IMMs) and Board Rules.
  • Schedules appointments, takes messages, and receives visitors.
  • Maintain a valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation. Travel may be required
