About the role

As a Paralegal and Compliance Specialist, your role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to data protection and information security compliance within the organisation.

You will be primarily responsible for owning and overseeing the development, maintenance and evolution of customer terms and conditions on a global scale, alongside preparing and negotiating Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with our customers, responding to data protection queries, reviewing customer terms and conditions, and ensuring compliance with ISO 27001 standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Customer Terms and Conditions Ownership and Development: Take full ownership of the customer terms and conditions framework and ensure its continuous development globally. Take responsibility for review and redline requests. Collaborating with outside legal counsel where required to approve and recommend modifications, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in alignment with industry standards and our own organisational policies across different regions and countries.
  • ISO 27001 Compliance: Support our ISO 27001 continued certification in the US as part of a global team. This will entail:
  • Data Processing Agreements (DPAs): Draft, review, and negotiate DPAs and privacy contracts with our North American customers.
  • Respond to Data Protection Queries: Act as a point of contact for internal and external queries related to data protection, privacy, and information security. Provide timely and accurate guidance to stakeholders, employees and customers, regarding data protection policies, practices, and regulations.
  1. Completion of internal audits (to ISO27001) across the US and other locations where required
  2. Working with the internal departments to assess, identify and report areas of weakness and work with management to devise remediating solutions
  3. Driving continual improvement across the US – including management of any improvements raised
  4. Preparation for external audits
  5. Confident and capable of communicating with people at all levels in the company.
  6. Ensuring business operations comply with operational policies, procedures and controls to maximise efficiency, drive continual improvement, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction
  • Compliance Monitoring and Reporting: Stay updated on evolving data protection laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Monitor changes and assess their impact on the organization's data processing activities.
  • Any other relevant work that may be assigned to you by your line manager.

Measures of Success

  • Successful adoption of our Customer terms and conditions whilst working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and with customers to gather input and insights to drive improvement
  • Owning and achieving continuing certification of our US office to ISO 27001 meeting targets related to number of findings/recommendations raised
  • Completion of a target number of internal audits
  • Ensuring Compliance with Data Protection Regulations across the US

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge of data protection laws and regulations (e.g., CCPA, state laws etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Information Security, or a related field
  • Familiarity with contract law and experience in reviewing legal contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and with people at all levels of the organisation

Desirable Criteria

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments to ensure compliance and implement best practices.
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001 standards, and experience in internal auditing to ISO 27001
  • Previous experience working in a Security management system (e.g. ISO) environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
