Job Description
The DEI Intern is a temporary position. The DEI Intern works on identified projects that support the Strategic Planning process including interviewing stakeholders and a community needs assessment focused on the mission of ShelterCare. ShelterCare believes that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must be ingrained in every aspect of our programs, policies, and procedures. This is a paid fall internship that has a $1300 Stipend. As ShelterCare's Strategic Planning Intern you will:


  • Attend staff committee meetings as appropriate including HR committee, Policy and Procedure Committee, DEI committee, etc.
  • Communicate/interview/survey staff and program participants to get a full picture of needs at ShelterCare.
  • Research community needs around housing and behavioral health.
  • Participate in the interview process of community stakeholders.
  • Attend at least one board meeting.
  • Work closely with the Strategic Planning Steering Committee.
  • Communicate regularly with the CEO on project direction.


To be eligible for this position your qualifications should include:


  • Must be able to pass a DHS Background Check
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Physical Requirements: Work involves sitting most of the work day greater than 50% of the time. Repetitive motion: Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers (computer use.) Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading, primarily on a computer monitor.
  • Candidates should be enrolled in an undergraduate program when the internship begins.
  • Essential Skills: Effective communication, negotiation and collaboration, scheduling and time management, leadership, risk management, critical thinking and problem solving, use of technology for email, spreadsheets, documents, etc. Be able to handle confidential material; organize and prioritize work.
