Remote opportunity

This position pays between $55,000 and $65,000 annually.

Advance Local, which operates news websites and newspapers from Oregon, to Alabama, to New Jersey is looking for a Page Editor on its Print Lab team that will edit content (stories, art, breakouts) to produce engaging pages for print products.

This is a true hybrid position. In addition to page production, the role will be able to curate content, write headlines, and edit photos and copy. Working with the Print Lab team, the Page Editor strives to produce the best reader experience while making production deadlines.

In This Role, You Will

• Advocate for your readers and present stories in engaging and easy-to-understand ways.
• Using a clear understanding of the content, write accurate and engaging headlines for stories.
• Look for opportunities to employ innovative storytelling strategies.
• Meet production timelines.
• Proof-read pages and graphics for accuracy, style consistency and common sense.
• Understand and follow the expressed best practices of the Print Lab workflow.
• Collaborate with Embedded Editors and Publication Managers to produce production-ready pages, including but not limited to the front page and section fronts.
• Use InDesign layouts to combine copy, graphics, photos and breakouts for print pages.

For This Position We’re Looking For Candidates With

• Minimum one year of professional experience, emphasis on presentation and editing
• Understanding of basic design concepts: hierarchy, balance, grids and eye-flow
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office
• Proven understanding of the primary principles of picture editing: storytelling, impact, composition lighting and play
• Ability to work with direction and constructive feedback
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic communications, or related field or equivalent experience
• Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage production timelines
• Working knowledge of digital and print media trends
• Provide a portfolio to illustrate proficiency in the above required skills
