Job Description


The Packaging Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining parts packaging, managing logistics quality, and costs of all inbound / outbound logistics for MTMUS (Mazda Toyota Manufacturing U.S.) production with management.


The Packaging and Quality Engineer role focuses on building and launching the operation processes by aligning with the project launch master schedule in order to achieve the Quality, Cost & Delivery (QCD) requirements. The Packaging and Quality Engineer supports MTMUS production planning by responding quickly to changes supporting the MTMUS production planning schedule, which working to meet customer’s demands.


The Packaging Engineer works closely with management during the production stages to improve daily operations and processes, and to ensure both run smoothly and in accordance with plant expectations.


Establish, Run Operations 75%


  • Monitor’s packaging warehouse and supplier readiness status and manages the process for completion in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains input/output parts and packaging information in relevant systems to secure correct ordering and logistics operations.
  • Generates packaging concept proposals based on logistics process, packaging efficiency and develop strategies with management for guiding supplier’s design study. Evaluates packaging proposals from suppliers and examines their feedback for improvements.
  • Establishes KPI (Key Performance Indicator) with Logistics Manager for current operations and processes and monitors the performance by achieving the required target QCD.
  • Works with Logistics Manager to develop the processes and procedures to identify issues with inbound/outbound logistics (including packaging, customs, and claims), centralized cost management for all logistics costs and monitors the status of these costs, and to promptly address countermeasures as needed.
  • Establishes packaging specifications for new parts, monitors and executes any updates in supply chain condition changes.
  • Reviews and analyzes daily operation output to identify root causes, potential issues, and possible area for process improvements.
  • Reports processes to management to ensure compliance is within specified regulations, legal requirements, and safety rules.
  • Analyzes and prepares financial reports and monitors the budget.
  • Works with Logistics Manager and team lead to develop processes and procedures for the supplier’s packaging establishment and returnable materials in order to achieve the highest level of compatibility of QCD from the supplier to the plant manufacturing side.
  • Develops and maintains packaging strategies that are aligned with global logistics management and executes these strategies during daily operations. Reports daily updates to management and team leaders.
  • Works with team to review operations and develop strategies for achieving the target KPI.
  • Analyzes logistics cost trends and predicts future cost impacts based on project master schedule and MTMUS production plan; works with management and team members to generate improvement plans.


Administration (Contracting / Payment) 25%


  • Assists Logistics Manager with yearly financial audits and tracking resolutions as needed.
  • Reviews related contracts and pricing with Logistics Manager and legal team to ensure they are within scope of the plan operations.
  • Inputs and maintains data in logistics systems for proper record maintenance related to compliance and regulations.
  • Reviews all purchases and payments for contractors with Logistics Manager.


Required Experience


Qualifications and Other Requirements:


  • Provide strategic contributions while successfully executing objectives assigned by management and team lead
  • 3+ years in a related field is required
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to understand and analyze logistics processes and cost structures
  • Ability to utilize 3D data software
  • Knowledge of logistics practices and principles and packaging establishment processes and procedures
  • Experience developing and presenting process improvement methods., reason, creative and strategic thinking
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal


Education (Minimum)


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Logistics, or another related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.


Preferred Experience


  • Knowledge of analysis methods such as PDCA, 8 D´s analysis, 7 statics tools, etc. is preferred.
  • 3+ years of automotive production parts logistics operations and/or packaging management is preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.


Travel


  • International: Up to 10% per year
  • Domestic: Up to 10% per year

Pay Range


$62,900.00-$91,220.00


Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
