Job Description

Organizational Description

The José Valdés Math Foundation provides six weeks of math instruction to elementary, middle school, and high-school students. The program operates from the middle of June through the end of July. The program provides these services to approximately 600 students each summer. The organization is seeking a skilled individual to assist in the coordination of student recruitment/enrollment efforts, as well as to provide information and communications to keep families informed of the Valdés Math programs.


Under supervision, the Outreach Coordinator performs or assists in the performance of collaboration with partnering school districts to facilitate the enrollment and participation levels of students both before and during the summer math program. Other duties are to assist in coordinating volunteers to support the Valdés Math program.


Distinguishing Characteristics

This is working at a professional level whereas the selected individual will collaborate with similar-level personnel from other agencies. This level is characterized by duties that primarily require the skills and abilities to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. The geographic area served by Valdés Math has a significant representation of Spanish-speaking residents, and it will be required that the person selected for the position is bilingual in English and Spanish.


Essential Job Functions

  • Interprets and implements applicable rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prepares and presents factual and statistical data and makes recommendations in written, graphic, and oral form;
  • Facilitates and assists students/families in the enrollment and registration process;
  • Represents Valdés Math at school-related events, fairs, and other public events;
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, and a variety of written materials;
  • Prepares advertisements and other recruitment materials;
  • Assists in performing outreach to encourage continued participation among underrepresented groups;
  • Prepares and implements recruitment activities via social media platforms;
  • Assists in the administration of the recruitment process of students/families;
  • Maintains accurate records, files, and databases;


Minimum Qualifications (Employment Standards)

  • Development of the required skills, knowledge, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree.
  • Sufficient education and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar role (i.e., job/employment recruiter, admissions coordinator, etc.).


Supplemental Information, knowledge of:

  • Work processes necessary to obtain desired results in the assigned program of work;
  • Methods and techniques of administrative research, analytical principles and techniques, report preparation, and presentation.
  • Filing and record-keeping principles and procedures;
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including automated word/data-processing systems;
  • Competency in managing and administering communications via social media platforms;


Ability to:

  • Prepare reports and supporting recommendations;
  • Operate a computer and perform standard word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and other applications.
  • Gather, analyze, and present data;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work;
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and databases;
  • Use initiative and judgment within established guidelines;
  • Take initiative, reason logically, and be creative in developing and introducing new ideas;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in both English and Spanish;
  • Follow oral and written directions;
  • Meet deadlines;
