Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Section Chair, manage the operations for the Clinic. The duties include: supervision, coordination of patient/dental technician flow according to the number of available staff and operatory units in the clinic area; ensure state of art and efficient clinic operations and interact with patients and assist with clinic/other inquiries. Provide assistance to patients, students, residents, staff and faculty.
Incumbent functions as Registered Dental Assistant Supervisor and Infection Control Officer in Oral Radiology. Incumbent will report to the Chair, Section of Oral Radiology. Responsibilities include: assisting Radiology technicians, assists in patient registration; schedule appointments; filing; monitor patient flow in the clinic; compiles and completes patient records and charts; prepares equipment units; check CCS/Medi-Cal patient's eligibility; performs regular audits to ensure that no expired materials exist in the patient care area; maintains a clean and orderly clinic at all times; sterilizes and disinfects instruments and equipment in accordance with established procedures; reports equipment malfunctions to the Chair, program director and clinic director and follows up with repair technicians as needed; answer phones in the clinic; assist the front desk; assist with patient issues; orders and maintains supplies; coordinates with other clinic staff to maintain regulatory compliance and manage communication with third-party payors, and performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Assesses emergency situations and provides necessary and proper response when appropriate in accordance with emergency protocols. Maintains working knowledge of First Aid and CPR.

Required/Preferred
Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry.
Required
Working knowledge of principles of asepsis, sterilization procedures and infection control.
Required
Working knowledge of principles of four handed dentistry.
Required
Working knowledge and ability of dentistry expanded functions as allowed by California State Law.
Required
Organizational skills to set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibility.
Required
Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty members, co-workers, patients, residents, students and the public.
Required
Writing skills to write accurate and legible entries of patient records.
Required
Skill in taking Dental X-rays and possession of a Radiology Certificate.
Required
RDA certified and possession of required certificate for state of California.
Required
Demonstrated patient care management skills to resolve complaints/difficulties experienced by demanding patients and patient billing situations with the goal of resolving conflicts related to care and billing.

Ability to handle multiple demands and frequent interruptions and maintain a professional demeanor.

Ability to enforce clinic policies by following established procedures.

Ability to use computers, cameras and x-ray equipment.

Demonstrated skills in supervision to organize and delegate work flow, train and evaluate staff and institute new/or modify old policies and procedutres as needed to accomplish sections/clinic goals effectively.

Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, including Excel and Outlook. Ability to learn new programs/systems such as a patient information management system in a prompt timeframe.

Demonstrated knowledge of what constitutes confidential information and skill in maintaining confidentiality (HIPAA) with regard to sensitive patient, faculty, resident and staff information.
Required
Current State of California CPR certificate.
Required
Knowledge and experience with Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal and CCS patients in order to resolve issues and advise patients appropriately.

Ability to follow procedure for ordering and stocking supplies and to maintain the inventory for clinic activity to minimize loss and maximize utilization.
