Overview:

Optometric Technician - Stony Brook Ophtthalmology Associates, UFPC.

Location: East Setauket, NY

Schedule: Full-time

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm

Pay: $24.27 - $30.31

Responsibilities:
SUMMARY: The Optometric Technician will support the department and physicians in the Ophthalmology department by perform highly complex functions under the general supervision of a licensed medical practitioner or health professional. The Technician will receive written or oral instructions as to priorities, scheduling, or technical requirements and are expected to carry out assignments under general supervision, consulting with the licensed medical practitioner or health professional.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:
  • Meet with contact lens reps to learn new products and how to achieve the best pricing for our patients
  • Performs and records ancillary testing including auto-refraction, tonometry, and lensometry.
  • Performs initial history taking, including recording presenting complaint, document past ocular history, medications, allergies, and etc. and input data accurately into the Electronic Monitoring Record software
  • Manage the Contact Lens Department so that the contact inventory is appropriate for the patient base, profitability is improved, and target levels are achieved.
  • Supports the department and the physician by being the first line of contact that the patient has in the exam room
  • Teach insertion and removal of contacts. Educate patients on the importance of keeping your eyes healthy while wearing contact lenses.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Perform I&R’s on new contact lens wearers.
  • Interpret the Optometrists prescription to properly to fit the patient with contacts.
Qualifications:
Required Education & Qualifications:
  • Must have full working knowledge and hands on experience with Visual Fields, Corneal Topography, IOL, OCT, A/B Scans, Fundus and External Photography, and Manifest Refractions.
  • Minimum One (1) year of full-time experience working in an Ophthalmology practice.
  • Must have experience working with contact lenses including contact lens education
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records. Ophthalmic Certification Preferred.
  • Associates and/or Bachelor's degree.
  • Additional years of experience working with Ortho-K, Prose, Soft lenses, Rigid lenses, Toric lenses, etc.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, office staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is active and requires the employee to constantly move about in the office to assist patients, staff and medical providers. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.
