Operations Manager - Retail Operations
STATUS: Exempt
LOCATION: Corporate
DATE: August, 4th 2023
Basic Functions
The role of the Operations Manager- Retail Operations will be to:
Sales/Service
  • Identifies and maximizes opportunities to drive traffic into stores through community events.
  • Holds weekly district conference calls and dedicates touch base time with each Store Leader. Is readily available when needed.
  • Utilizes company tools to diagnose opportunities and develops action plans to improve performance.
  • Forecasts and watches business trends closely, identifying missed opportunities, and developing strong action plans to improve performance.
  • Ensures strong execution of merchandise calendar sets, and promotional events in all stores.
  • Sets the standard and models exceptional customer service. Inspires team to build relationships with customers and identifies and removes distractions that could minimize effectiveness.
  • Develops new business strategies for business growth and revenue generation.
  • Partner with corporate office personnel and Services Manager to increase sales, drive/promote merchandise categories, and expand markets.
  • Regularly communicates with Merchandising and Marketing to discuss strengths, opportunities, and trends in business.
  • Coaches team in the moment, providing consistent and constructive feedback.
  • Works closely with Store Leaders, providing clear goals and monitoring performance.
Human Resources
  • Ensures company standards are always met for store and associate appearance.
  • Develops Store Leaders and teams through consistent store visits, management meetings, and touch bases while providing continuous feedback.
  • Builds loyalty among the team through motivating and compelling communication. Inspires collaboration and cooperation in others.
  • Establishes clear expectations and assesses Store Leader's performance through consistent observation, feedback, accountability, and coaching. Creates developmental/performance plans as needed and provides ongoing training regularly.
  • Creates and ensures an environment where all associates are treated fairly and respectfully.
  • Recruits and hires top talent at all levels. Develops strategy to retain high performing leaders. Makes a personal investment in the development of others.
  • Models the company's values.
  • Identify skill gaps and schedule trainings to team members.
Operations
  • Responsible for ensuring all sales, marketing and merchandising communications are disseminated to store management with accountability for implementation.
  • Makes recommendations for schedule adjustments, as necessary.
  • Reviews P+L and identifies opportunities to reduce expenses and ensure goals are met. Manage and control shrink.
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures merchandising/display/marketing standards are maintained, and stocking/replenishment standards are met.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities to streamline and update policies and procedures.
  • Ensures proper standards of cleanliness, maintenance, and organization in all stores.
  • Consistently monitors payroll and looks for opportunities. Coaches Store Leaders to ensure service and selling are not compromised and payroll is leveraged to maximize performance.
  • Ensures consistent operational compliance/consistency and follows up through routine visits and touch bases.
  • Provides direction as necessary to Store Leaders to improve time management and prioritize business needs.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: CEO or VP. Store Operations
Supervises: Store Managers
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • SALES
Associate Development - focus will be on increasing sales through a high level of customer service. This would include, but is not limited to coaching, training, and motivating store management.
Category Analysis – ability to compile and interpret data as a tool to increase sales.
  • EXPENSE CONTROL
Budgets – monitor budgets to ensure that we are controlling expenses and finding new efficiencies in everyday duties, adherence to payroll and inventory goals, monitor unexpected fluctuations in business and coordinate adjustments to hours with Human Resources.
  • STORE CONDITIONS/MERCHANDISING
Performance Monitoring – review stores on-site. This would include associate appearance, customer service, store efficiency and store conditions.
Follow Through & Implementation – ensure any corporate requests and agendas are followed through properly, utilize effective and impactful merchandising and signage. This will include but not limited to policies, procedures, marketing initiatives, PFOM, PLP, contest, etc.
  • COMMUNICATION
Verbal/Written Communication – daily with store managers. Primary contact between stores and corporate for store needs, questions, problems, etc. Direct store maintenance needs to Operations Manager as needed.

Continue to identify ways to improve store performance so we are working "Smarter" not "Harder."

  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store, including forklifts, pallet jacks and dollies.

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with associates, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 0-50 lbs.
  • Ability to process information and merchandise through computer system and POS register system.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
  • This position requires working in both the internal and external environment.
  • The position requires working occasionally around loud noises.
  • This position requires working in both hot and cold temperatures.
Education, Experience And Training
A. B.S. in Business Administration or equivalent work experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively execute the operational practices for a group of retail stores.
  • Proven store management working experience.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, clear thinking and uses good judgment.
Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to use Excel is essential.
  • Ability to sell, manage and drive growth.
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills.
