Objective
This position provides assistance to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Wapello County to organize and present Pick a Better Snack programs in area schools and provide childcare to the NEST participants.
Responsibilities
  • Work with classroom teachers to schedule classroom visits and share additional educational materials
  • Provide childcare for children during NEST parent education classes. Supervise children, provide developmentally appropriate activities, and clean up and organize the childcare room.
  • In PK- 3 rd -grade classrooms in the area schools teach Pick a Better Snack, USDA research-based nutrition information, including sampling of nutritious snacks
  • Purchase and prepare foods for classroom presentations
  • Comply with ISU’s mandate to be nondiscriminatory
  • Comply with all aspects of Iowa State University Extension’s Child Protection and Safety Policy
  • Serve as a liaison between the County Extension Office and the classroom teachers
Qualifications
  • Minimum of high school degree or equivalent, college education preferred
  • Interest and experience in conducting nutrition education programs for children
  • Educational background in elementary education and/or nutrition education.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Complete the mandatory reporter training or provide a non-expired certificate of completion.
  • Experience teaching and/or leading group activities with school-age youth.
  • Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision from professional staff & supervise others
