Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Duke Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology primarily at Duke Women's Health Heritage in Wake Forest, NC as well as Blue Ridge OB-GYN at Durant Road in Raleigh, NC. The APP will work in collaboration with attending physicians and advanced practice providers providing direct patient care, performing consultations, collecting and documenting data, assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and ordering and scheduling laboratory studies. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Obstetric and Postpartum Care

Will provide obstetric care to prenatal patients from the new obstetric visit throughout pregnancy and including the postpartum visit as follows:

• Performance of the new obstetric exam with identification of problems complicating pregnancy or pre-existent to pregnancy.
• Patient education relating to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care.
• Performance of FHR assessment, NST interpretation, pelvic exams for antepartum and labor assessment and triage patients.
• Initiation of plan of care/diagnostic testing/interpretation of labs/treatment plan based on individual patient medical/surgical history.

Gynecological Care

Will be responsible for management of gynecological patients for routine care and/or treatment of common gynecological problems including but not limited to:

• Pelvic/abdominal pain
• Postmenopausal bleeding
• Treatment for symptoms of Menopause/perimenopause.
• Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
• Routine Postoperative follow up and problem visits.
• Routine Well Woman Exams and Pap Smears.
• Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
• Breast changes or masses
• All methods of family planning and counseling for reproductive life planning.

Miscellaneous

• Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled, diagnostic and therapeutic services to the patient and/or their family.
• Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising MD, clinic staff and other relevant healthcare providers.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

• Nurse Pracititioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

BLS Required

License

• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.

Experience

• 2+ years of APP experience with Women's Health experience strongly preferred.

Job Hours

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. There is a possibility of weekend hours in the future with extended and alternative hours expected upon request/scheduling needs. Additionally, the APP will reside in the specific division of hire and rotate as needed to potentially all division sites to be available to see patients according to their scope of practice.
