Position Title: Public Health Nurse


Location: Hybrid – Travel within Regions of North and Central IL

Salary: $85,000 plus benefits


Overview: 


The CDC Foundation is seeking a Public Health Nurse to provide nursing consultation to health care professionals and provide technical epidemiologic assistance to local Tuberculosis (TB) personnel.


Qualifications: 


  • One year of experience presenting training materials
  • Two years’ experience with exercising judgment and discretion on developing, implementing, and interpreting programmatic departmental policies and procedures
  • Travel up to 10% of the time
  • Passionate and solution oriented
  • Two years’ experience in tuberculosis case management system, health care delivery systems, and/or managed care programs
  • Willing and able to travel to LHDs for onsite technical support and conduct regional conferences
  • Three years’ experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in nursing or public health
  • Requires maintained licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
  • Two years’ experience in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating health care systems
  • Possesses and maintain a valid, current Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable private transport
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in community/public health nursing


Responsibilities:   


  • Serves as the TB program liaison to Illinois State Board of Education, schools of medicine, local school systems, and other professional organizations
  • Functions as the program liaison to health providers documented as being out of compliance with recommended diagnostic, therapeutic, or patient management procedures; conducts on-site problem-solving visits
  • Travels to provide nursing consultation to health care professionals. Oversees and evaluates nursing case management of persons with TB. Reviews and evaluates treatment regimens. Monitors response to treatment and adverse reactions. Reviews medical records. Provides training to licensed personnel on TB testing, case management, and other topics
  • Contributes to the development of the TB program budget with regard to fiscal requirements for maintenance of educational and printing needs. Monitors expenditures of allotted educational and printing funds
  • Facilitates and conducts one regional conference annually for counties in region(s) supported
  • Works with Southeastern National Tuberculous Center (SNTC) and develops training programs to address program weaknesses based on training needs assessment. Develops and presents training presentations to implement training plans developed
  • Provides technical epidemiologic assistance to local TB personnel with problem situations such as epidemiologic investigations of problem patients. Provides epidemiologic investigations in areas where no local agency has responsibility for TB control activities
  • Plans, directs and coordinates the implementation of program activities. Provides technical supervision to professional staff within local health agencies in complying with program guidelines. Makes recommendations to the TB Program Manager for improvement of various program functions
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements training programs for professional and non-professional staff involved in TB control and management
  • Responds to requests from significant public groups, such as medical societies, educational associations, etc., for a speaker or resource person

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Illinois in order to best support the Illinois Department of Public Health in their public health programming.


This position is currently a hybrid position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required. 


This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle as a component of the job responsibilities and duties. In adherence with CDC Foundation’s Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy (“Policy”), offers for employment for this position require the Applicant to provide authorization to the CDC Foundation to conduct a Motor Vehicle Record (“MVR”) review both pre-employment and also annually post-employment while in this position. Additionally, if an offer of employment is accepted, employees in these positions must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence, self-report motor vehicle violations/convictions, and provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage with mandatory minimum coverages as set forth within the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle policy.
