Nurse Practitioner: Rectal Cancer Program Coordinator

PURPOSE:

• Provides administrative support at the Rectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (RC-MDT)

meetings/Cancer Conferences

• Management of accurate and timely information to meet the NAPRC standards for each Rectal

Cancer patient.

POLICY AND PROCEDURE:
This role is responsible to maintain the following:

• Communication between departments
• Coordinating patients’ appointments
• Oversight of data collection

Role requirements:

• Monitors patients with suspected and confirmed rectal cancer throughout their diagnosis and

treatment.

• The Rectal Cancer Program Clinical Coordinator ensures that all patient care pathways are

followed according to the agreed guidelines, including time targets. (See flow chart below)

• Ensures that all required information is available at all RC-MDT meetings.
• Following each patient presentation at an RC-MDT meeting, the Rectal Cancer Program

Clinical Coordinator informs the treating physician of the discussion outcomes.

• Proactively coordinates pathways ensuring that all appointments, diagnostic tests and

treatments are booked within the time targets set by the standards.

• The Rectal Program Clinical Coordinator may need to contact the patient to obtain any needed
• Coordinating patient care with all health care providers.

• This role must be appointed at the 1st meeting of the calendar year. If the position is vacated,

the alternate/replacement will be discussed and appointed at the next meeting.

• Develops with the RC-MDT the policies and procedures for coordination of care for program

patients.
