Under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner Lead of Preventive Health, the Nurse Practitioner (APRN) will assist the Preventive Health department with the following duties:

Population Focused Care :
  • Perform examinations, including physical and screening for psychosocial problems per program policy and protocols.
  • Provide care for patients at risk or with complex reproductive health needs and refers appropriately.
  • Develop contraceptive plans including insertion and removal of Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) such as, Intrauterine devices (IUD) and Implants; Develop treatment plans for identified health problems according to protocols & refer patients as appropriate.
  • Assess the health of male and female patients seeking preventive health services per program policy and protocols.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of emergency as outlined in the DHEC Emergency plan, to include staffing of shelters on site or in other areas of the state.

Population Focused Education :
  • Provide in-depth education regarding health care issues to individuals, families and groups.
  • Teach, counsel, and monitor the treatment regimen in selected populations.

Continuous Quality Improvement/Leadership
:
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical orientation and continuing education for Preventive Health (PH) nurses.
  • Provide educational offerings at local and/or state level.
  • Serve as preceptor and role model to PH nurses and nurse practitioner students.
  • Provide consultation to PH nursing staff.

State Minimum Requirements: Positions in this classification requires a licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and certification as a Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with clinical experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements:
State minimum: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with clinical experience. Agency minimum: Master of Nursing (MN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the SC Board of Nursing and Prescriptive Authority through the SC Board of Nursing or Master of Nursing (MN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), with ability to obtain licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the SC Board of Nursing and Prescriptive Authority through the SC Board of Nursing within three (3) months of hire.

Driving Record: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
