Nurse Clinical Coordinator - Uicc Pediatric Associates

The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered Clinical Coordinator to support our UI Community Pediatric Associates Clinics. This position provides nursing leadership and oversight for primary pediatric population served within UI Community Clinics and Clinical Outreach. Functions as a clinical nurse expert for patients and UICC. The clinical coordinator will facilitate communications between medical staff, management, patients and/or family to provide excellent customer service. This position will serve as a liaison role to provide the dissemination of information and education to clinical care team.

This position will support and have time divided between both administrative and clinical support and being flexible to providing staffing support is essential.

About Pediatric Associates: Our clinics specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders. University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital team works hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital and uses one electronic medical record for each patient which ensures constant and timely communication between the patient and the entire medical team. Key Areas Of Responsibility Include

• Lead nursing personnel in providing specialized patient procedures and care management plans
• Adhere to internal and regulatory policies and guidelines
• Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives
• Other clinic duties as assigned
• Assists with reviewing benefit request in time tracking system
• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards
• Create clinic staffing schedule and represent clinic at daily staffing huddles; trouble staffing gaps and identify solutions
• Serves as a liaison between clinical staff, family members, and UICC leadership
• Provide specialized health education to patients and health profession students
• Lead or participate in evidence-based projects within specialty area and collaborate with the appropriate CPL or NPL staff member to implement practice changes.
• Troubleshooting and managing facility issues in real time
• Assists and acts a liaison with supporting new initiatives including new service lines, expanding clinics, adding new providers, etc.
• Applies expertise in communicating real time feedback and direction to clinical staff
• Applies expertise in specialized field to improve nursing outcomes, leads and participates in evidence-based projects, and implements team-based care
• Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning, delivering, and evaluating care for primary and specialty patient populations.
• Participate in recruitment, developing, and managing performance of staff
• Provides direct patient care/nurse triage responsibilities as needed, floating to other clinics as needed

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 hour shifts, variable hours accomplished between 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM with limited, rotating weekend coverage, no holidays, no on-call time.

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of nursing experience is required
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required
• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Valid license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with ambulatory clinic workflows
• Professional nursing certification is desired
• Excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, and health care workers
• 1 to 3 years' experience in patient care, particularly those with ambulatory specialty, family med or pediatrics
• Demonstrated leadership and training skills (might include but not limited to:Charge Nurse or Lead Staff Nurse, etc.)
