Job Description
The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.
At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration – to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves.
The Nuclear Operations Directorate is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical engineering support to the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Hill, AFB, located 15 miles North of Salt Lake City. The specific work would include providing technical support to the future Sentinel design (ground based ICBM) and the Red Teaming of current and future systems. The successful individual will be required to interact directly with senior military and US Government civilian leadership at the Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate (AFNWC/NT) in Albuquerque and the Sentinel SPO (AFNWC/NX). The successful candidate would combine technical knowledge of ICBMs and intelligence to provide support. Other responsibilities would include forming, leading, and implementing both Government Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Aerospace study and analysis teams.
This is an on-site role based at Hill AFB, in Utah.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Serving on-behalf of AFNWX/NTX as an independent technical advisor to Sentinel assessments, which may include but are not limited to: MBCRA, TTXs, Intel Working Groups, Subsystem TIMs or Summits, Program Security Group (PSG) and additional MAE events, working as needed to coordinate additional participation from qualified technical threat and system experts.
  • Directly supporting The Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate, Nuclear Mission Assurance Division (AFNWC/NTX). This division is responsible for Red Teaming current and future Nuclear systems as well as understanding Blue team and understanding Nuclear Effects.
  • Serving as the technical liaison between AFNWC/NX and AFNWC/NT to provide NTX with updated organizational and technical information and other relevant information and data, particularly system data if possible. This includes working with NTX to update NX on current study status once funded, and updates on internal studies that are of interest or relevant to NX. During funding decision process, persons in this role will also represent RT objectives for NX inputs to NX leadership, or directly to NX leadership depending on the need. If NX is providing organization priorities for study idea inputs or other tasking to NTX, NTX-OL will vet study ideas for feasibility, appropriateness, and relevance to RT mission/charter.
  • Providing technical support to Sentinel, mission assurance oversight, systems engineering and integration, and detailed technical analyses of ongoing and proposed modifications and upgrades to Sentinel.
  • Providing assessments of new technology efforts as well as assisting with developing requirements for future technologies. The candidate will also be comfortable working on ill-defined problems with many variables.
  • Conducting independent analytical red team studies and related systems analyses on Sentinel components and subsystems, or relevant systems as determined by AFNWC/NX and AFNWC/NTX
