NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs


If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

What Your Job Will Be Like


We are seeking a dedicated Nondestructive Inspection Technologist to join our mission-focused team that serves the Nation by developing and evaluating energetic systems for critical National Security missions. Our Computed Tomography team scans energetic (explosive) devices, prepares scan data for tailored analyses, and archives scan data in our custom data archiving infrastructure for rapid retrieval. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Safely handle, package, store, and transport energetic components; these activities will require lifting and bending and strict alignment to documented procedures.
  • Identify and implement current technical trends in CT scanning.
  • Work will be conducted on a remote testing range located on Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).
  • Exercise considerable latitude in daily operations and manage schedules and thoroughly document results.
  • Plan, schedule, and complete work as a member of a dynamic team.
  • Operate other 3D imaging systems such as handheld FARO laser scanners.
  • Conduct segmentations on CT scans, document scan and analysis results, and collaborate with the CT team to plan and prepare CT lab operations.
  • Team with the current computed tomography machine operators to conduct CT scans, store, transfer and analyze data.
  • Conduct nondestructive evaluations of energetic systems.

Qualifications We Require

  • Experience performing nondestructive inspections using radiation-generating equipment (e.g., nondestructive inspection, Computed Tomography, x-ray, fixed source, etc.) or MRI.
  • Associates degree in relevant field or 4 years’ relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Planning and performing CT inspections in a non-medical setting.
  • Three or more years’ experience operating CT equipment.
  • Post-processing imaging tools such as Volume Graphics, DragonFly, or equivalent.
  • Supporting operational missions and/or personnel and engaging with external sponsors.
  • Active DOE or DOD security clearance.
  • Nikon and/or North Star CT equipment.
  • Radiography technician or nondestructive inspection technologist.
  • Formal training in explosives safety, radiography equipment and maintenance, and/or high-voltage systems.
  • Well-organized and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).
  • Planning, organizing, and performing complex tasks or operations.
  • Willingness and ability to work with explosives on a day-to-day basis including handling and storage.
  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in relevant field.
  • Experience in the following:
    • Radiography technician or nondestructive inspection technologist.
    • Supporting operational missions and/or personnel and engaging with external sponsors.
    • Planning and performing CT inspections in a non-medical setting.
    • Nikon and/or North Star CT equipment.
    • Post-processing imaging tools such as Volume Graphics, DragonFly, or equivalent.
    • FARO laser scanning equipment.
    • Planning, organizing, and performing complex tasks or operations.

Security Clearance


Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Position Information


This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
