Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician stating freedom from communicable disease. Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. Performance Responsibilities:
  • Checks nightly to ensure that all exit doors and windows are properly locked, and all lights except for those left on for safety reasons, are turned off;
  • Cleans and disinfects restroom floors, sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily;
  • Remains on the school premises during regular work hours and when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance required by the building administrator or head custodian;
  • Shovels and/or sands walks, steps and entry ways as necessary;
  • Keeps all floors in a clean, dry and attractive condition;
  • Keeps building, premises, and play areas neat and clean at all times;
  • Cleans corridors after school each day, and after night activities, when their condition requires it;
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair by making such minor building repairs as personal capabilities allow;
  • Performs such yardkeeping chores as grass trimming, minor tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition;
  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the building administration or head custodian;
  • Washes interior windows on a regularly scheduled basis;
  • Sweeps and/or vacuums classrooms and dusts furniture on a schedule established by the building administrator;
  • Reports immediately to the building administrator or head custodian any damage to school property;
  • Performs such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the building administration or head custodian. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-months per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education through collective bargaining with the representative association. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. SALARY RANGE: JOB 1 This job description has been reviewed with job specific BFOQ's and in accordance with the American Disabilities Act.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings to accommodate various activities as directed by the building administrator or head custodian;
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste;
  • Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week, or as directed by the building administrator;
  • Washes all exterior windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year, and more frequently if necessary;
